not denying your experiences, but there would be those that would argue that those type of sets work with just the gland, not so much with just the urine.
I think what it all comes down to Bill, is that some consider urine a lure, some don't. In the overall scheme of things, there is coyote pee all over the place, while perhaps not with a nozzle, for sure with a intense effort to pee about wherever they want to pee, so while urine is of interest its not something I find my coyotes go too far out of their way to investigate. Esp in the fall trapping season, where scent marking does not occur. A flat set with gland and urine, which is all a scent post set is, does catch coyotes.
I'm curious- do oyu feel such flat sets, take more coyotes for oyu than hole sets? or do you exclussively just run urine gland sets?
mist is perhaps a misleading word- spraying all over the set would be more apt. I know from my experience (pretty much mirroring yours insofar as age range I'll be 65 in a few months) and there is no doubt in MY mind, that using lots of urine, gives me more coyotes, quicker. when I test something like that- its a year of doing so, a year not, a year doing so, etc- and the evidence is just too overwhelming to not spray

I was taught to use a lot of urine used all over the set area.As long as the urine is a good urine and not some rancid kind. And I don't mist the urine it is a stream.

I agree Bill- and the purpose of discussion is not to prove one way better...its to see what othres are seeing, that you do not.
for example- and I don't know if this is you or not and if it is is not the point- but some feel a flat set, is a superior set to a hole set. I don't mean on a singular situation, but as an overall go to set.
I can remember debating with people, that the flat set was far more productive than my hole sets- and for me they were until I reached a point where pretty much all my sets were flat sets- lots of them so invisible, I could tell what the exact spot was until I pulled the trap or had a coyote.
and my best hole set, was a sharp stepdown set-
now, the set I make 99% of the time, is the same hole set, with a modifed stepdown/dished pattern over the trap, with substantial backings and large extend wide angle patterns.
I came to that BY discussion, by trying what others said worked, by adapting that to my own situation.
ChrisM still said it best-"if it works for you, you are doing it right"

Steve Sorry if I came across as "my way" was the right way, that was never my intention.I started out misting the whole set than changed after I saw the the animals were doing on objects they peed on.I know a guy that catches over 300 coyotes a year, during the fur season,in leg holds and doesn't use either urine or lure ever.He alternates between two different baits in a modified trench set.He does use some blind trail sets also.
