some years I do- most years, after I get the mink footholds out, and the coon sets out, I'd set 4-5 110s a check until I feel enough is enough- thats usually 50-60 110s, some years more, some years like last year when ice was a problem from day one, never set a conibear all year.

Steve--do you "officially" run those #110s as multiple day sets or daily check sets?

In water less than coon drowning depth, some drown, some don't.

So let me ask you this? you are so adament about drowning EVERY coon at a coon set, but a coon can stay alive in a mink set for 3 days, what gives?

gee ah golly whiz- wonder what gives?
Im just not your class of trapper rk, thats what gives. I DO sometimes catch a coon in a mink set-
and thats with blind sets, so its odd enough I'm catching anything....
and final answer- if I really have to explain, then my friend, you really don't understand.....trappnman

doesn't take a genius to figure it out-
the THREAD and the ISSUE was about the DEPTH NEEDED FOR 100% DROWNING-
now- even YOU as much as you like to be a troublemaker whenever you post, can see what RK is bringing up is separate issue- and I'll be glad to debate the catch and death of incidentals with rk or YOU if you so desire-
otherwise- think a little............

Trouble maker lol, look who's talking. The thing I don't understand is how the 3 day check works. If you have a live critter the 1st day can you be fined, arrested, given a warning or any of the such if you don't check your traps for 3 days? What are the restrictions for a 3 day check, if you use foothold traps do they have to be on a drowner? Apparently you do not have to use bodygrippers.

simple- if a trap is CAPABLE OF DROWNING the animal, then its legal for a 3 day check. but the debate alluded to by your question, is a different debate- and that is how much water can you use as a minimum, to ensure 100% coon drowning?
ALL my water sets, are CAPABLE OF DROWNING- far more than the 90% figure mentioned by others.
on MY PURE COON SETS, MY SETS ARE NOT ONLY CAPABLE OF DRWONING, BUT ENSURE IT.

What's capable? one foot or three?

do it however you like- 1/2" is CAPABLE if the coon lies down, streches out and sticks his nose in the water-
but the premise of my original original thread, was how much needed to ENSURE drowning-
and 18" isn't it-

when I use BK's line "we are both trapping the same mink steve"
it tells me volumes about BK as a man, and a trapper.
BK, if you can't make WI this year, maybe the MFH convnetion over here Sept 25th?

wonder if anyone caughht Jim Spencers comment elsewhere, something to the tune of " bait setters seem to fooget the main part of a baited pocket...." and goes on to say that the unbaited pocket is one of his favorite blind sets.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmn..............
Nick you let that slide? Without jumping all over him and quoting Gerald? LOL
