The easiest for me is a 220 on a stakilizer the rebar with the H top with a pogo cable stake for thevies. I also use just as many foot traps in the water alot eaier to jump in the ditch rather than climb in an out the slick muddy banks all day but like to run some in water an land like to have all my bases covered coin boxes work well in late season set near dens they do not work well except for possum an cats in early season.
Snares work great but attract too many theives and I educate too many of my local trappers as to where the runs are. I like dirt holes but the time to dig them an keep them active in bad weather I could pop in more 220s or plunk a foot trap in the water squirt some scent an be on my way to more locations

Keith, first off I havent snared enough beaver with different locks to give an honest opinon of them. Most of them have been caught with a surelock an were body caught so were still alive never tried drownin them, I did catch a number with large washers but didnt like the lock do to fur damage. I also dont like the surelock much. Too much of a one time deal and not very smooth. I am going to the camlock this season Ill let ya know how I like it after I catch a few in it. Sure wish I could catch a muskie I have trouble with pike LOL I am pretty good with them flatheads though closest thing to a muskie in most of my water. RR

I answered ya on Tman but will anwser ya here too. By law in IA you must go a min. of 10 miles an for good reason they will travel MILES to get back I got a coon once with paint on him got him in our barn kicked him loose bout 6 miles from there had him the next nite. I beleive it is ILL were it is against the law to relocate now seems like you just give someone else the problem critter when ya do this.RR
Thought I should point out too that coon ANIT afriad of swimmin Ive follwed too many hounds on the river and seen them swim LOTS of times.

I will end with one generic thought, if a coyote was as smart as human scent shy beaver, he would be impossible to catch.
And if a turkey could smell like a deer or a deer could see like a turkey you couldnt kill either one either LOL

I have caught a few dz coon in the blackholes. I use them over a cage trap while doing ADC as they are less obvious to theives and cheaper than a cage easier to carry around too. I have never set them any way but beded tight just like I would for a dirt hole. I dont think you would want to set them by just plopin them out as they need to pull up to set it off. The only problem I have ever had is when you get frozen conditions, like any foothold they freeze unlike the grizzs but again its a small price to pay as cheap as they are.

The grizz is a great trap I have caught a few coon in them, never tried the egg trap dont think I want too. But for the money the blackhole is the best in my opinion. For 5-6 bux you got one and you can use your 1.5 cs that you all ready have.
