ha, ok, you can cook steven. in fact I like that idea! I was just razzing nick. he is so razz-able I just can`t resist. nick is my bud too. he never cooked, but he did get a gate or three, and was good company. he is definitlyone of the good guys. I think he saw a few of the last of the mohicans when he visited me in wyoming.

Dave- Im not trapping coyotes with 1.5s- I have 2 swivels on the chain, that more than enough for coon, my set locations and methods preclude little or no chewing
I don't have coon misses on land- stepdowns, guided patterns, armstong guide stick- it just doesn/t happen enough to matter
best trap available/ thats the duke 1.5 for COON-
please don't put words into my mouth- nowhere did I state a factory trap is better than modified? I never said that, nor implied it. I'll gladly defend any statement I made, but I can't defend nor will what I didn't say. I do use a lot of unmodiefed beyond offset coyote traps, but never stated they were better than full mods.
short notching is modified. It does exactly what I want it to do. if you want to bubble jaws, do this, do that............. do so, not going to hurt - but for me, I see no need. ON COON.
So I have a method to accomplsh the same goal- end of creep and slop- so what?
I'm not trying to convince you are anyone to try it my way but simpy stating how i do it-
I'm not saying your way is wrong, I'm saying I have very good success MY way-
but I'm hardheaded cause I want to stick with my way?
there is NO right or wrong- at least in my opinion- if it works, it works
I've refined my methods so they work FOR ME- I have no wobble, no slop, pretty much NO misses-
read Bob's quote on bottom of this thread-
------------------------------------------
I find it hard to believe that taken in context, my comment about Sterlings could be taken in any way but a sardonic reply to TCs musings on dukes- in fact, it even stated such in about those words-
for the record- have used Sterlings for a little udner 2 weeks- all I can say, well built trap. as are the Jakes

Your lucky nick, he cooked eggs for me in the old grease from the bobcat supper the night before.
Not what I would call appetizing.

I agree on nicks smart move. the older guys are notr so quick to accept the new technology. more than once I`ve seen the kid come back to the farm and triple production and profits if he can just get dad to let loose of the rains. nick, be sure you aren`t coming back as a hired hand till dad is 127 years old and finally tips over. by then you just well hand it to your kids.
