Throw the rest way, Duke 1.5 is the only one IMHO. Thought I was going to switch to all bridgers, that lasted until most of coon and beaver they latched onto pulled out.
Tightining up the dog eye is easily done, and well worth it.
Interesting discussion with the extra short pan notch vs a longer pan notch...going to give me something to think about on the line this fall.

Steve, I have very little experiance with the newer dukes, only the no.3 softies and they are junk,I had used some of the older Dukes and didn't think much of them, however I have seen the improvements Bill Duke has made over the years.

agreed. I looked at he #3 rubber dukes also brian( and the 1 and 1/2s). as did another buddy that is a live trapper of note. we both came to the conclusion that barring almost rebuilding them from scratch and also grinding every metal edge on the whole trap, that they were just unacceptable, like not usable and get a result that could be lived with. maybe all that has been fixed. I don`t look a second time. only one chance with me.

Bob I bought 3 dozen of the duke No.3 softies back about 2004,time I took them apart and brushed all the sharp edges, base plated them, took the pans off and replaced them with a pan that wouldn't hold the levers open and bent the jaw tips up and bubbled them I had a decent trap,1 trap I didn't bend the jaw tips up or bubble and had a coyote pop the jaws out right in front of me and my 12 year old son.I'm pretty sure if that coyote was in a MJ600 I wouldn't have that memory....B....

my buddy didn`t grind the sharp edges off the levers and had a coyote looked like he had been worked over with a samuri sword. he was shreaded, near bled to death. you couldn`t have done him any worse with a razor blade box knife.

Tman just not a fan should be nothing wrong with that? Coon you guys no more but still I want to try things for myself, but duke won't be part of the selection just never been a fan, the beauty of america.
You stated the montana LL style every bit as good correct? I know John Graham pretty well, so I would rather my money go to him and Gerald just the way it is. John has always come to the smaller conventions and has made the drive to sell his product and do demos, people like that and are grounded are good people.

I agree and all the Montanas I've used and handled are 1 step up from the old Montys, top notch equipment.I remember when the Montys came out and I bought them for 30-40 bucks a dozen,I knew they and the northwoods were better than anything out there,Now the Montana line has taken that same line and improved it,truthfully with traps like those out there ,there is really no reason to look elsewhere!....B....

TC- like my opinion on Sterlings- if those stating an opinion have little experience on anything- dukes, sterlings, blind sets, etc- then that opinion is valueless and has no place here.
Remember the rule- if you don't know, don't say you do.
lately, its seems like we are in a flashback machine, where every post is a duke hating post- dukes are junk, dukes are this, dukes are that-
you don't like them? don't use them.
I've used their 1.5s and 1.75s on land as much as any man around- thats a fact- and I know what they do and don't do- quite well.
also have quite a few of their conibears- nothing wrong with them at all- the old 110s had a weak rivet, but thats been corrected
as far as their bigger traps, haven't used them enough to form an opinion on them- thus- I WON'T

duke rubber traps are junk. I looked at them. maybe they have been "fixed" since I looked. as said earlier, I`m not a guinea pig and am not going to pay to test traps for any company. plus why test? I have enough miles and hrs and numbers I don`t need to use crack to know it`s bad stuff. same deal on the duke rubber traps I looked at a few years back. they were offered to mer FREE if I would plug them in my dvd. I refused as it would snmack of the worst kind of ethics failure on my part.

Don't "hate" any trap they are just metal, but some I just won't use for various reasons.
No flash backs I just soon go a different route is all, again for reasons of my own.

Bob there are too many big number mink men using them for me to believe they are junk.
I was always a big northwoods in the water fan but I dont think they are any "better" than a duke for water trapping and at 3.5 bucks new vs 4 to 5 bucks apiece for the northwoods, well you do the math.
The duke 330's could use a little harder steel in them. I think on the few I have every one are bent. But than again bent jaws are endemic to every brand of 330 I have ever owned.

And bob feeds me bobcat.
Except next time I am cooking it. Indiana cuisine is too bland.
I understand what you mean about the softy's bob, but you retorted to nick that he might be "getting what he paid for". That can be inferred different ways but typically on an inexpensive item a guy is implying junk is cheap. Kinda like wally world.
