It sure do Tman but the material is not as important to the aspects we are talking about as with the dogless trap!

looks like you still got a bit of snow- what are you using for trap covering?

Bogio if your pans where larger E-W you wouldn't have those toe caught coyotes seriously again because of the pan screen works great with your traps and even dog on style I have little doubts, but again PIT enlarged pans make up for me using No screen. Two methods same results.

Yeah you could say there is still some snow. This location from earlier was showing usage so I reset it. This is today's check. Spots that had blown clear are opening up nicely. Deep beds and dry dirt to keep things working.

Looks like traps and trapper working in tough conditions !Heck of a location.Does the amount/thickness of trap covering be it dry dirt ,powder snow /wet heavy snow or a mix ,effect where the trap lands and hold on the foot?Jaw height /trap configuration come into play also ?Do you have a rule of thumb when /if you clean your sets off?

Those dam grades blown clear are good locations for traps, I like to add carcasses in the middle and double set each side at the head of a major drainage system.

trouble with dry dirt, is its about the worst for freeze/thaw
I do go through a lot of it though, and dry dirt and peat combined is about the best I've found.
but haven't used much waxed dirt- debating if I should take the time to make it- the sheer quantities I'd need always make me reconsider.
All I know, is last season was the "worst case" for me insofar as snow trapping- our last 28 days, including 2 lines, was all snow trapping and I say worst case, because any more snow, and I'd have called it quits.
the silver lining, was I got a chance to figure out a little bit about snow trapping in 3-8" of snow, with constant blowing and below normal temps.
biggest problem is drifting. I don't know what the answer is. Easy enough to say "set where it doesn't drift" but that's a tad more difficult to do than to say. While deep stepdowns would be an obvious non choice, simply adding a hole to a non drift location, immediately turns it into a drifting situation. flat sets blended in with snow might be a solution to keeping sets open, but I dislike the lack of any visual when they are snowcovered-
if sets where snowed in, but the hole was still clearly visible, I left them alone for at least a day or two. If the hole was covered, or if sets had more than 2-3" of crusted snow, I'd clean them off. We tried a broom, shovel, by hand and the best we found was a leaf rake. I also got in habit of running rake behind me going away from set- whether that mattered or not, hard to say
if a set was in a more open location (as a bean field set with duff backing), we would clean off the area 360 from the set- if against a weed border type backing, we would fan out the cleared off area but make sure it was cleaned off on both sides as well as in front.
overall, did much better with cleared off sets, than with snow covered sets.

overall, did much better with cleared off sets, than with snow covered sets. OK, other then your catch per set records, what specific and repeated observations, especially consistently alike observations, did you make at the snow-covered sets? No approach(disinterest) or maybe along the lines of a approaching the set but wrong approach to trap as compared to a bare ground approach.

Bill the pro grade are clearly the better IMO , glad to hear Russ is still making lure I have bought lure from you at a few conventions, to say some of the superior lures are the same as they where back in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's I can understand maybe some things getting harder to find or too expensive but to call some of these the same lures is not at all the case. canine Call today far different than it used to be, trails end and pro's choice are 3 easy enough for me to see a change in formulations has occurred, I used these lures for many years and have seen the difference not subtle either. Talking older white label versus newer yellow label product .
Not bashing just stating some of these have changed formulations is all. With that comes changes from some of the critters for some might be a good thing for others not so much, for newer guys they know no different so they might find them to be of great value to them. The pro grade to me is where it is at from Carmen's lures. All be it tough to get at times.
Bill do you have any standard circle maker on hand?

Yes Steve but I don't ship.I will be in Lagrange Id for the FTA meet.In June also Sterling fur carries it sometimes.Jerry Johnson also has it.I'm still selling a lot of canine call lots of repeat's.Its kinda interesting to note Canine call is my No.1 seller here in the same county were Russ lives. So much for those that say a lure gets burnt out.Competition is worse this year than ever. can't imagine why? Musk Formula has become a go to lure also. Just some local observations.
