Guy since there was ahuge catch this spring of rats. What is your guys guess on prices starting out this fall on rats. I know there no magic ball to look into but just your honest guess. I would like to target them this fall with my boys we don't have very many but it would be fun. Thanks

I'm afraind paul is going to take a break from the coon and target rats, flooding the market.
All kidding aside furking, lets see what kind of levels the next to sales set.
Rats will/should open up good next fall but expect the buyers to be cautious as well.

Yea Steve they will be cautious.I remember back in January the buyers backed off for a while only for the market to actually get stronger.Seems like markets correct or just fluctuate very quickly in this information age.The averages won't look as good in these late sales reflecting the type of goods.I think the percentage sold will be the most telling number in looking toward next year.I'll be interested to see if the big number of poorer coon start to get cleaned up.

In my opinion the HUGE spring take never shows up on the auction They are already In the pipe line. How many spring rats did wiebke buy? 400,000 or more do you think those rats ever hit the Auction houses? And he's only one buyer out there, there are others. So what NAFA and FHA are advertising Is just the tip of the Ice berg.
Good luck

100,000 South Dakota spring rats isn't going to effect the market much at least in the long term.Maybe some buyers may have some short term needs covered.I think sale averages will be in the seven dollar range at the auctions.Which is a great rat price especially with spring rats included. Even though some seem to think if you don't get 9,10 dollars for rats your getting screwed.LOL

I heard Beadle bought him 200,000 in SD. Think only certain customers will use spring rats, so many might be short handed already if they dont want the spring rats.

The increased number of ranch mink from 2008 to 2011 is more than the total number of rats caught in North America so a 50K here or a 100K there is nothing to a market that wants rats. If there is a market those rats will sell. What does it take for the US trapper to use resources to trap a couple million rats per year. Well it was not 3-5 per rat it needs to be 6-9 and then we are all rat trappers. Don't you think the buyers know that as well? We are easier to bait and lure than most of the animals we trap.

Rich, Beadle told me on 4-14 that he had shipped 120,000 to them, and he was going in for surgery on 4-15, but to call back as he may buy a few more.

BTW Paul you are way low if you think only 100 thousand rats were taken in SD this spring.
I can think of 5 guys that would account for 19 thousand of them and none of thier names start with you me or blakely lol.

We figured Karry Hanson had about 3000 on his truck one night alone. There was over 1300 for sale in the parkinglot, and over 1000 the night he didn't show up!!!
