From what I get out of that artical they are talking about policy's that were developed in 60s and 70s. Totally different culture and support base than what the NRA stands for now. Really don't see anything in that artical that has anything to do with the issues at hand now.

is it always black and white for some?
close the loopholes in the background checks laws- as the NRA first proposed, then blocked
to want reasonable checks isn't anti 2nd amendment for God's sake- I carry a gun far more than 99% of those reading this

" many people carry guns on them or in a vehicle.." and that should make me feel safer?? Even my friends are concerned that some idiot with road rage could pull out a gun these days. It's darn right creepy to go into the local pizza parlor and see a grubby lookin' fat guy sitting there with a gun on his hip. It may make him feel secure but it sure doesn't do anything for me.
A sad state of affairs in this country if ya ask me:-(

Pam you are far left of center. Your worried about a gun in road rage when a person with driving a 2,000 lb hunk of steel might pull a gun? lol what about that person just ramming you at 40 mph with a car? Or even 20 mph? Good grief the long list of reasons is silly IMO.
The grubby guy in the pizza place might just save people as well. He also I am betting is one who is a law abiding citizen because your a really dumb portion of the criminal element if you open carry and have issues with the law LOL.
No the sad state of affairs is trying to add more regulation to something that is a protected right of law abiding people, thinking we will change the outcome of gun violence by adding more laws on, as these will never effect the criminal element just those law abiding citizens to create more hassle for them.
Again look at Chicago and tell me gun control has any bearing on gun violence LOL
South Dakota and other states in the region have some of the most Liberial gun laws in the nation, along with it some of the lowest crime in the nation, Chicago and DC very tough gun laws and very high crimes committed with guns. Tell me what is working better?

Absolutely NO, The idea of background checks at gun shows has little to actually do with gun shows. It has to do with licensing firearms. If a FFL licensed dealer sells a gun at a gun show, then by law a background check is required. If a non-FFL dealer (you or me) sells a gun at a gun show or ANYWHERE else they would have to have background check done on whoever is buying the gun from you. This means that there would be a back ground check and record of every gun purchased, given away, handed down. That I'm not in favor of.

So Tman home sales no back ground checks just guns shows?
I know Chicago is not an island neither is the rest of the US clearly shows strict gun control laws do nothing to deter crime in this country ! The state of Illinois has some of the most strict laws in the nation, they honor no other states conceal carry permit and what has that done for their crime rate with handguns? lol

why not?
if you aren't a criminal, does it matter?
govt knows every car, truck and motorcycle I own- yet, I sleep like a baby

Tman that is the point no criminal is going to buy a gun from a dealer yet we will still have illegal guns on the streets.Except for,not everyone selling guns is on the up and up supply and demand will always have guns in the hands of some who shouldn't have them. Look at our prisons no drugs in prison, yet they run rampant in there and why? They have rules and regs on such and far more controlled than the nation as a whole, guards brining it in for lots of money and people they know as well, supply and demand even though prisons have cameras and other safe guards around, give the criminal element time and they will figure out away!
So the answer is keep imposing tougher and tougher gun laws on law abiding people to make a supremely small dent in the criminal activity of guns?
Govt could know of every gun as all serial numbers are at the ATF disposal. You think it stops car theft as well? 500,000 cars annually stolen each year in the US and the govt has all the info on them.
In Michigan the odds of your stolen car being recovered is 19 percent.
Some states 70 percent. Yet every vehicle is registered. So why would we think guns would be any different?
It is not the law abiding gun owner we are worried about it is the criminal element, many gun owners sleep like babies and betting many criminals do as well. As they just could care less as a criminal but to state gun control is a boogy man is not factual. The left would love to enforce much stricter gun control laws for the sake of doing such nation wide.

the boogyman is thinking the dems are your enemy, when in fact in recent years the opposite is true I know, I know----your selective memory just kicked in

Refresh my memory please how the dens are my families friend? They push for more strict gun laws just a fact is all that iis relevant to this topic.
Charles Barkley stated this " the poor have been voting democratic for many years and they are still poor"
I look At this quote far deeper than money.

For me it comes down to a lack of trust in our government. Some states have already decided that certain firearms are not permitted in their state, requiring owners to give up possession of such firearms or components they deem unnessisary. In one of the last proposals that was floated around on the "gunshow loophole" a $40 dollar fee was going to be added to each firearm to pay for the background check to completed. My kids would have to take out bank loans to pay for inheriting my guns when I pass them on.
Roughly 250,000 guns are stolen in the US in a given year, good chance them are the ones that are used in the high majority of crimes that we are trying to target. If you really believe that passing more laws are going to curtail gun crimes I believe your mistaken. Last time I checked there was already laws on the books making murder, and theft a crime. Criminals don't care, they will find a way.
Again I will ask, pass more laws and when they don't work what's next? The people who are really pushing these ideas have repeatly stated they want to end gun ownership of private citizens in the US. But for now all they want is to close the gun show loophole, ban semiautos, ban any gun that holds more than 3 shells, ban any gun with plastic on it, and on and on.

You say no more laws, but you have been talking about requiring background checks on all firearm purchases, which in my view is the same as gun registration. I had a situation several years ago where I lost a 22 pistol off my ATV while checking traps, gun was found by a landowner several months later and he turned it in to the sheriffs dept who in turn contacted ATF who ran the serial number and tracked it back to my dad who is a licensed gun dealer. ATF called him and informed him that they had recovered a gun that he had purchased and it had been used in a crime (not true) and needed his records. Long story short I got my gun back, but learned not to trust the gov. No I am not for no restrictions as I believe there are people who have lost the right to own a gun, but I also believe that there are far to many restrictions on law abiding citizens. If I can pass a federal background check then why am I not allowed to carry that gun wherever I wish? I do agree with you that we need to do a better job of inforcing laws already on the books, but it also frustrates me that so many times these crimes are committed by guys who have long rap sheets and have no right to be our in society, they should have been locked up and the key thrown away long ago.

That is because our court system is back logged with cases and cost associated with taking them to trial so we plea bargain now more than ever in our history! So guys who should be doing 10-15 plea bargain it down to 5 with time served and they are out 22-24 months later at most, and the highest majority of short time criminals go out and commit more crime within 6 months.
Far deeper issues than gun control, and gun registration for sure.
Most states and the ATF do their best to enforce laws but agin only so much money to go around and states must do a better job of reporting things to the NIC's system.
This system is only as good as the information being Inputed into it by the states!

If the system is backlogged now it sure does not make sense to even enforce more the laws on the books as they won't get prosecuted anyway or they will not get longer sentencing. What you are saying then in reality is that a better proposal by the gun control advocates is to pass legislation that removes weapons of any and all kinds more from our society so that there will be fewer victims of violence. The backed up legal system sure makes the NRA's enforce better the laws we have a very lame excuse and more and more people every year are realizing just that.

Bryce funny LOL. There will always be violent crimes the method could change but the violence is never going to be stopped by our govt making up news laws, like w dog chasing his tail is all that amounts to. History has shown that.
If you think by making AR platform rifles illegal to own that will have any effect on violent crimes then your mistaken. The weapon will change and the violence will continue and more rights of law abiding citizens taken away for not, just because big brother on the left decided what we should be able to own and to pay back for votes from the anti gun crowd.
If they have the zeal to tear apart the 2nd amendment where is the zeal to prosecute crimes with laws in place to their fullest?
