Lets say you could outfit yourself with any bodygrip trap to run for mink. How would you set up the trap? What modifications would you make on the trap?

Three feet of wire and spray them with flat black Rust-oleum, I like the trigger wires tight together. KISS,..............

I just spread the trigger wires, add a light copper wire between the ends of the trigger wires, and spray paint with flat black rustoleum.

And if you set them underwater be ready to reset them if you have any current and crap to deal with,................

If your going to set 110s for mink on land, set the trap upside down with the trigger pointing up in a V shape. Mink have to jump thru it instead of squeezing under the trigger. Helps to catch coons in this small trap also.

First, I'd make sure it is a magnum. Cut off the rivet, and add 1/4" rod for a stabilizer/stake. And I'd dye it black.

that rod is ok, but its more of a pain then its worth for me. I did up severla doz many years ago, and find I'll grab one without over one with. I used long carriage bolts (as BK or Rich Faler, one of the good mink men) advised.
As far as looping wire on the triggers- I think its a waste of time and doesn't add any mink. Center your triggers spread in a V.

i waxed mine this year since i will be using in brackish water, i have had quick rust problems in the past with just dip and brackish water, hope it helps some, still will need to boil and treat traps soon after finishing up in that quality of water.

TMan: How do you rig the carriage bolt on the trap? How long is the bolt?

drill the rivet off the non spring side, and replace with a carriage bolt, 2 washers and double nuts. use the double nuts to tighht it down, but still leave it "loose" so the trap fires. I'm guessing they were 6 in bolts.

Steve, while you have the sequence correct mentioning my name first,.............I take offense that you would use my name in the same sentence with Rich Faler.

Let's do this, .............I PM ed' Bob Jamison one time about a beaver lure question that's it , I don't know the man at all, But I think we both respect him,..................... I'd be interested to to know his thoughts about Rich Faller as big time mink trapper? He's from that area. I say the fat boy is a method writer, no way in hell does he drag his carcass up and down enough creek banks to have an original thought of his own.

BK....
I have no idea if Rich is a for real mink trapper or not, but it doesn't really matter.
There are certain books that are the definitive work on a subject, and I truly believe that Rich's book is that.
From A to Z- the book is as comprehensive a book on mink as I have every read. No other book is close in the way that this book is right on from habits, line management, on and on.
As a lifelong mink trapper- I know whats the real skinny and what isn't. As do you.
Whether hes a chronicler or a trapper- the info is sound.
I strongly recommend this book to any mink trapper.
As I said many times- I'l lbe glad to debate it page by page.
Reminds me of another book- Bud Bodas troubleshooting land trapping. Boda gets a bad rap from many people- but is book is The definitive book on troubleshooting. Some things I just smile at- but most of the info is right on.

I doubt Bob Jamison will enter into this arena,.................. Everything RF wrote he copied or pried out of real mink men. Fine,...............I'm not concerned about his monetary gain or the dues he didn't pay to those that shared info. with him. What does tighten my jaws is he spit out some BAD information, that in itself can set an aspiring young trapper back.

i already set some of the 110s to test and they held fine, it is a very fine coat of wax. i dont see any problems with it. if it dont work too well, ill boil the stuff off and just paint as usual.

Screw it Steve , I said what I felt I had to say ,...................I feel better," free if you will." You don't appear to be coming back ,so I'm off to the river to catch the second trout this morning so the wife doesn't have to watch me eat fish tonight. ;D
