Brown jersey gloves for setting, no gloves for luring.
I may buy a few pairs of leather gloves to use this year instead of the jerseys. The jersey gloves get torn up pretty quick.

I only wear gloves when it is real cold and only for keeping my hands warm.
Started setting barehanded about 25 years ago and found, for me, it didn't make a dif.
Do use care when I lure and wear brown jersey gloves most times.

You guys who are not wearing gloves to set. Do you feel in any way it hurts your catch? If I'm reading the posts right you just make your set, wheather it be a step down, scent post or flat set with bare hands. If so, do you wear gloves if you get a canine messing with you? Like the educated ones who have been pinched before, or had a clod of dirt thrown in their face. Sorry for the dumb questions, just very courious.

Hunky, I don't think it makes a difference for me. When I got tested last year, I did start wearing gloves while I was trying for one particualr fox, the antics still went on for 5 weeks, before the light bulb finally went on in my head, and the use of the noggin was what overcame that problem. Some people swear by them, and that is fine, I have full confidance setting barehanded, and I catch enough fur to make me believe that setting barehanded in no way handicaps me.

I use dollar store cotton gloves for setting. Bare hands for luring. I think I have a dozen different pairs and grab 3 or 4 clean pairs a day and wash the dirty ones in an unscented detergent. ****** TIP***** If you use this method, make sure you leave the house with matched pairs.... Yeah one time I got ready too set and found I had 6 of the same hand....

One year I bought a bag of gloves at a convention and they were all right handed gloves! I just turned half of them inside out.

Depends,,
Last opener I was back to wearing rubber gloves due to the extreamly muddy conditions and I had several pairs laying around the barn.
Usually I use leather or cotton. Untill December, then i switch to chopper mitts. Lure and bait with same.

Ive used leather gloves and cotton for setting traps, prefer leather when its dry out. mainly use the gloves for four reasons. to keep my hands somewhat clean, I smoke, so I feel in my case it helps me with scent and to keep any lures that may have found its way to my hands(I lure bare handed) off the trap chains or traps themselves and last but not least to keep the piss off my nose and lips after carring out a catch, should I decide to rub my face or have a smoke...jim

I hate using glove and I think I will quit this year. I keep getting the material caught in the levers and frankly I'm ornery enough without additional aggravation. I figure I can keep my hands clean enough by carrying a wet warm washcloth in a zip loc when I'm out setting traps. When it gets cold I have little choice.

O.k, another dumb question. To the guys who don't wear gloves. Do you mist the set with fox urine to help hide the human scent left behind by your bare hands? I think if you make the set so that the prevailing wind is blowing the lure scent across the dirt pattern you wouldn't have to. I have made sets before when there wasn't any breeze and it is hard to tell which way it is blowing. Craig

There are reasons for misting a set- but normally making a fresh set is not one of them.
