seems like a lack luster year all around for trapping.
be interesting to see the final numbers.
I still have traps out, but inoperatable with this below zero spell- but starting Thursday, suppose to have 10 days with temps in low to mid 30's- that will allow me to break everything free and run at least 3 checks in open water conditions- rats should move good, mink should start moving more and the last push on coon, although I don't have a lot of coon traps out
been a low numbers year on everything for me- coyotes down 20%, coon up from last year but still, rats down and mink as well. not sure why and various reasons for each I'm sure, but hopefully its just the past 2 harsh winters catching up with us.
am I the only one still out there?

I have a half dozen marten/fisher boxes out plus 3 locations snared up for wolves. Things are extremely quiet. There are hardly any tracks, of anything, in the bush.
All my fur is off to auction in a few days.

I will walk another slough tomorrow to see if there are any feeders or pushups to set. I have not had traps out since December 20th. Down for me this year. Coon catch off 70% (much less effort), mink way off, canines way, way off and rats off about 30% but only due to about 100 through the ice in December. I will be shipping a mink 135 rats and 30 coons Monday for March. I am also shipping some low grade fur for a friend who collects fur during the season. I have a separate account for those. When I showed him the finished low quality and damaged hides it was the first time he had really ever seen them put up and he was surprised how poor they look. He now understands better why he was always offered very low prices in the grease.

Im done now. Mink and rats just went out here in Pa and my mink addiction was fulfilled. I just dont have the desire to go out for fox like I usually do this time of year, and I didnt trap early coons either. I just got a piece of timber to cut so it is about time for log prices to fall through too.

are those two outer ones, males? seems like that red belly area is always a bigger male, and I think its from them licking all the time (aka as dogs do)

Havent really noticed it being male only? I do get females like to the ones on the far right and left also that are pink colored.. Early onset of mange? Other wise good coyotes.. Never, 60 years has got to be be a wealth of knowledge!! You will get them good in 61st!

I can't say its 100% females- but it seems as if everyone I've looked at, has been a big male with otherwise perfect fur
is it mange? I really don't know, but based on my observations with mange in raising hounds its not a universal starting point- that is, most of the mange I an recall, started on shoulder, or some other body part- whereas this is (on the coyotes) consistent as to where it is. I truly believe its from the male canines habit of always it seems, licking down there. exmadator, how often do you see it on females?
bogio- why did you remove the pics?

I was running out of room in photobucket and inadvertently deleted them. I'll try to get them loaded again.
My dog got a dose of fleas from the coyotes and was constantly licking and chewing that area of the belly inside his back legs. Started looking just like those coyotes. Frontline cleared up the fleas and his belly cleared up on it's own.

See if anyone can tell what is in the background; what building? Still trapping!! trying to pick up three more coyotes and a mink or two. Never targeted mink but thought I would give it a try.
