I do have good luck with just a deer hide,I fill it with as much scraps, carcass's as it will hold use hog rings to fasten together. Really made a difference. Trying it made a believer of me,old farmer told me he done it years ago.

I do that when a whole carcass isn't available to me. Seems to work just as well.

my thought on how to catch what is left, is to go to a new location within those coyotes area.
as far as multiple type sets- I'm convinced that the type of set matters- while I certainly think that "other" types of sets might catch that last 1 or 2. I also think that whatever "extra" you might catch, will be offset by those you don't catch, using sleeper sets etc. in other words, % wise matters most on where you are, rather than the set, and if where you are is the spot to be- then a set that appeals to the most coyotes most of the time, is the way to go.

Knowing what coyotes do at a trap set will let a guy know that the longer you make them work the better your chances are.

You think keeping a spot baited thru summer, will keep animals coming to that location? How far do you think animals will travel to a large bait? Estimated distance I assume.

without a doubt, if the baits are consistent throughout the year- you will get benefits from doing so.
no one can tell distance- but the bigger the attraction the farther they will come

When animals are caught at a bait site, how long does it take for new groups to come to the area? Seems I catch pairs in February alot,do they travel off pattern in late winter?what do you mean by sleeper sets?

I havent played around much with beaver bait piles but around here deer piles suck.I trap for several hunting clubs and have seen as many as 200 plus deer at a dump site while none seem to be tampered with I just dont understand why.I even go to these sites a month of so after the human activity is gone and still nothing to talk about wish it did work would make things alot easier for me

I got a few places like that not 200 ,but several deer. Nothing comes ,over the years people would poison, and sit and take pop shots at coyotes. Im guessing the animals spook and teach the next pack the same,so on and so on.

But i do believe, when I create my own spot( no activity but me) they learn comfort and I have good results, same as creating post sets with urine, they start to use it,I got spots I squirt urine ,I never set a trap.

No way poison here way too many hound hunters a person would be under the jail.Nearly all my deer dump sites are out of sight down paths which would seem perfect.I did pick up 2 road kill deer in mid summer and got some reaction about 2 weeks later and made catches close to the dump site.I plan on putting my own out next season maybe I will see a difference with just one or 2 deer seems I learn something every year when it comes to coyote trapping.

the poison deal here was hush hush, some people just throw it out in bait piles could care or lee about the damage. it sucks but anyway. i do good with roadkill deer. by changing i mean 2 to 5 hundred yards away. they come regular to feed i catch average 6 to 8 there then pull out have had as many as 20 to 30 in 2 weeks that was a untouched track of land. what i have noticed is putting bait back in those same places with no traps gets them feeding again. hey coldsteel you know anything about the laws here on collecting urine in nc? bobcats, coyotes, fox?

I mostly live market trap so I dont see how you could get in any trouble as long as the animal you are holding is in season.I put hay in my holding pens and start using th mixture at some flat sets with good results.I probably should look into collecting urine myself. u talk about strong urine have about 4 or 5 reds in a pen wow!

You probably should contact a game warden to be sure there are certain requirements you have to have to hold game.I would hate to tell you anything that I am not positive about

we got 10 inches of snow , i havent seen that much since i was a kid. i have no experience trapping in snow except maybe a inch or two. i got 3 baited sites around 20 traps out here at home , its like the coyotes knew , they came to feed walked all over my traps. not a single trap fired. tracks everywhere . it was fun getting to see the action that happened. and the places they peed.

Snow can be a eye opener for sure I thought I was starting to figure these yotes out till we got several snowfalls.I set up obvious locations but have come to the point they have no set pattern on the routes they take not in my neck of the woods anyway.I also dont see the packs that people talk about usually just one coyote 2 at the most.

for the most part yes. i have alot of small farms i trap, maybe 100 to 200 acres thats big around here. and alot of deep country ,example being couple or three miles on an atv from my truck. im close to alot of cattle mostly ,less than 100 head. two goat and sheep farms maybe 100to200 head. but over the years i have learned to go to the highest ground and work my way down the ridgelines and find where the deer ,bear, ect cross and i find the interstate for the coyotes. most of these places i catch several coyotes in couple weeks time.i dont get them all from the spots, i always find a bit of sign when i come back to check bait.a place i started trapping several years ago i caught almost 30 in two weeks.it had never been trapped it was almost unbelievable.6 cats as well and all this was on a low spot on a high ridge.since then i catch 6 to 8 coyotes there a year and only a couple of cats total. also i set it up a broader area now. some guys lease it for deer ,grouse and bear.it joins large tracks they run to the blue ridge parkway.i got a coyote job in town this year a family that owns a large local company had been seeing alot of coyotes. now this is a small narrow track of land in an upscale community. less than 500 yards from a grocery store and houses join the property all the way around.15 acres total. 2 weeks 10 coyotes ,3 redfox I released.. 2 nice cats 1 being my largest 36 pounds.i forget how many coons.if you walk to the top of the area it just keeps going and ends up on the parkway as well its a ways and alot of mountain houses between.i had 2 baited sites with roadkill deer with a dozen traps mostly blind trail sets. then i would let the animals tell me where to put them. only reason i left was the bears. could not keep them off the bait. made freinds with the folks said i could trap anytime.so i look forward to trying that place next year. i get new places to trap every year but the places i trap year after year is getting harder with the bait the coyotes are educated i believe.i get the dumb ones and i really gotta study and put more traps out to catch. so basiclly its only easy that first year if its a spot thats not been trapped.
