I've seen sauerkraut farts have more life than what's been discussed on the "Trapping" forum lately. I see a lot of folks stopping in for a look-see but no discussions! Nobody wants to talk about coyotes, board sizes, coyotes, trap mods, coyotes, rats, coyotes, mink, coyotes, bottom edge, coyote, "mink resting" spots", coyotes, stall-outs, etc & etc.....

Wanna talk about how all the chicken littles say the market is dead because on sale that not that long ago would have been deemed pretty good.

Give it up Steve, the rat market is done. You might as well fish the next three winters. Your right things don't look too bad. All the trapping sites do seem real dead.More so than most summers since I became an internet trapper.

Wanna talk about how all the chicken littles say the market is dead because on sale that not that long ago would have been deemed pretty good. Yup Steven, it's really an interesting thing to watch as a seed of negativism starts by somebody, gains traction, and the next thing you see are folks(supposedly) running for the exits!! ;D ;D. Reminds me of back in the 60's and I took a gal to a theater to see "The Birds". During the movie somebody pounded real loud on the exit door and 3/4 of the audience jumped-up and headed for the exits! ;D. I had a good hold on the gal so she didn't want to go anywhere and maybe didn't know folks were trying to leave around us.

Speaking of busy work- I had a couple dozen 160 springs and just about as many 110 springs stored away so I fabricated the equivalent size RBGs with them. I'm very satisfied with how both sizes turned out and they'll be the first traps under the ice this winter. Click on pic to play video- 160-size-comparison 110-size-comparison After buying the NAFA fur handling DVDs and checking my board dimensions against the preferred ones shown. So today's project was to get the resizing of my coon, red fox, and coyote boards done. Other than doing some lure testing and ordering a snowmobile trailer, I'm caught up till boiling/waxing time! For all of those reading this thinking that all I do is play, well that's just not true! I find time to work such as whip-up a batch of dried cherry or wild blue berry scones in the morning for breakfast! BTW, tomorrow is my bread-baking day! ;D

All the trapping sites do seem real dead.More so than most summers since I became an internet trapper. Got my check today Paul. Looks like it will be ribeye afterall lol. 69 rats shipped. 29 of those beat to hell. 3/4 rats, heads eaten off, big holes. You know the kind 15 pins to hold them on a wood board because I dont know how I would have gotten them on a wire stretcher. If ya cant tell a rat has to be reaaaalllllllly bad for me to ditch. Still got over an 8 buck average after commission. With 11 pretty good ones unsold. If mink stay at 80 to a 100 rats will be alright. I hate to sound like the peanut gallery but I was hoping rats would ease some. The month of march saw record prices. If a guy held on that long it was payday. I sold rats on the 21 or so of march for numbers I never though I would see for my section. But if they go to three bucks, I'm still gonna catch a thousand. Hey your the one who says I'm addicted to rats. Than I'll quit the first of January and fish like hell. I never caught a lake trout last year. I dont want that to happen again.

2500 rats and then you can go fishing in March.Even at six bucks that would be a good payday for a couple months work Steve. In a perfect world then a three hundred beaver in April. The way it sounds if you can tell it was a rat skin it and pin it.

Three hundred beaver in April isnt going to happen for another 18 years.
Just the way it is.
300 in February/March could be doable though and I am planning a beaver line this winter.

You wear a welding apron when you're baking Seldom? ;D ;D Nope, Bogio I don't. At this time of year I usually bake shirtless. One of my stepdaughters and granddaughter was visiting last week and while I was making wild blueberry scones for their breakfast I got "THE Eye Roll" from her and an "eeeyyuu" from my granddaughter! BUT--- they ate the devil out of every batch I made as they always do my homemade bread. I told them my "shirtless baking" reply shines when I'm baking sourdough bread where any added bacteria just makes my bread more unique and personalized! Truly a "Seldom's Sourdough Bread"! ;D ;D. Whenever relatives are scheduled to visit, I start baking enough bread for the visit while my wife s baking batches of cookies. After everybody leaves I start baking bread again for us.

Nobody wants to talk about coyote trapping because it just doesn't pay. Im picking blackberries off my bushes. All my potatoes are already harvested. eating squash and zuchini out of the garden along with cucumbers with a dash of salt, onions are almost ready.
All my traps have been ready for next season for some time. added 8 dozen DP's to the arsenal and 10 california cage traps for cats.

I've been busy canning sweet and spicy pickles from cucumbers picked from the garden. Won't be long until it's time to start canning tomatoes.

God, I miss home made bread. Seldom, you should move to northwestern MN. Been to Grand Forks a couple of times when my youngest son was in the Air Force. I think it could have been near Crookston or the general area that's farm ground, we saw a bull moose and two cows cross a bean field! After my first wife died I spent a couple weeks alone camping and fishing in the Chippewa National Forest mostly between Black Duck and Grand Rapids. I bought a beautiful 12ga Model 12 Winchester in GR! Been through Kenora and International Falls and on around Superior as is typical I think for a Michiganian to do.

I'm not too far from grand forks. About an hour.
That was probably the last bull moose in the crookston area.
They are pretty much gone around here. I could tell you where half dozen bulls were at almost any given time. Its been about 3 4 years since I've seen a moose.

As far as the garden goes I just hilled my taters the other day. I wont see a cucumber for another 3 maybe even 4 weeks.
I could have had my garden in couple weeks earlier this year with the early spring but we were busy.
Planted 30 heads of cabbage and bought me a 10 gallon and 20 gallon red wing crock so I should be knee deep in cabbage this year.
