As a replacement for muskrat as a liner for Chinese coats/jackets, I was told beaver, even sheared, is too heavy. The leather being a big contributor to that extra weight. In general, the Chinese are a diminutive people.......so the fur and leather needs to be on the light side, and the reason muskrat is such a good choice for that demographic. AND, again as I was told, this is the reason red fox are a good alternative for rats, creating a market for even the flat reds. Maybe someday they will figure out a use for flat coyotes! MZ If you guys remember there was a day when the coat coon was the highest price paid for coon, because of the light fur and leather. I'm sure southern beaver are the same

actually northern beaver have a very supple leather, very thin. With no snow cover and falling water levels a lot of our beaver froze out and were predated by wolves. 10 % of the population survived.. dom mink are up so the rats should hold strong..... they need another couple off 100'T to fill the market. With all the water coming to Sask they should have a good productionn next year..we just got water in Manitoba after 8 months

Well, back to the topic at hand......................The NAFA rat prices are fine with me, but are all these BB's showing us a major turn in the market. What % should sell PT before next season..........Discuss (any personal avg's. from this sale would be helpful)........ -Dan

So far from what rats I have sold I have a $9.02 average. That's not to bad but they haven't got to the smaller grades yet and that will probably bring that average way down.
Is the sale over for the day or are they just taking break or Is there a technical malfunction. I'm looking but nothing Is happening.

This sale's rat average so far(barring PT) is $10.13 compared to Febuary's sale where I took a $13.33 average.
I really made a mistake between the catalogs and my Lotting when I first replied. 54% of my total rats offered graded 3XL-2XL of which 3/4 of them were in two BB Lots(***218 & ***227) so most of my best rats didn't sell along with the majority of my XL's that were in scattered BB's.
Sorry for the confusion!

My average dropped like a stone. After all the smoke cleared I ended up with a $7.08 average. I'm not real happy with that number. Had 130 buy backs. But It Is what It Is.

My buybacks were 3xls near the top the page so my 9 dollar average should be close to 9.50 anyway.Which all in all isn't bad.Not too optimistic about the beaver I have at FHA for the late June sale though. The sale tells me the coon market here in the triangle will likely be in the range we had this past fall.

Beav, that's still a decent number for ND spring rats. Plus, your BB's should bring that avg. up,right? i thought it was the better rats that were BB. just wait for the day they drop back to less than a gallon of gas............that will be harder to take.

Remember to minus commission on those as well. Always looks better than really is. What the check says is actual averages.

Calvin It might be time to Implement our plan for next rat season. Gonna count me in? My rat avg right now on this sale is a hair below nine dollars. When the 16 or so sell in the next day or two it should push it back over 9 bucks. Of the 69 I sent 29 had to be pasted on the boards with pins. I throw almost nothing in the weeds. If a mink ate the top third I'll put it up. Why not they are 4 bucks lol. Of them 29 I'd say 20 would have needed a zipper to keep warm. After commision I'll be over 8 bucks and anytime I can do 7 dollars plus on rat I'm tickled pink.

Remember to minus commission on those as well. Always looks better than really is. What the check says is actual averages. Do I have to. lol Sold rats in the country and at both NAFA auctions.Hindsite, as many rats as possible in the Feb. auction would have made a guy the most money. To echo Steve seven dollars after commision year in and year out is a pretty good number.

I agree on that price BH. I/d trap rats just as hard for less and have more elbow room....but I, for some reason, always do better in country as opposed to shipping...with less headache.
You guys that do both...have you done better in country of shipped the last couple years? Rats that is.
