Looks like rats are doing well at FHA. Looks like $8.00 and $9.00 averages. Haven't seen many posts about coon or mink. That looks good for the up coming sales. To soon to say I'm glad I didn't sell In the country.

Looks like $8.00 and $9.00 averages.
Well at an eight dollar average I am glad I sold once in the country. Figure in commission its a wash.
At nine dollar average I'm out a little but not enough to lose any sleep over.

MN-WI coons just shy of $19 would be nice to know what 36% was pulled good, average or poor? Rats about $8.85 we will see how those prices carry over to our small sale tomorrow. We have about 1,000 rats plus coming and an bunch of green coons. Wow the better yotes and reds are moving up nicely.
We have a guy bringing 40 grays to the sale from Washington Island. They don't have reds on the island but the place of full of grays.

18.89 avg on the best coon section ?? Not setting the world on fire are they? I would have thought in the low 20.00's? I think many are nervous with the monster coon harvest that took place this year all across the mid west. Only 64% sold and only 50% on the Iowa coons? Will be interesting to see how NAFA shakes out.

FHA never does well at this early auction, their prices always scare trappers who have fur on the February sales.

TC, at our MTA winter meeting yesterday, good coon were still being sold for good money.
Sold one yesterday for a bud(ya I know one is not a true indicator) that was 2x and good color and heavey furred for 27 dollars.
By the looks of the beaver price jump, i'm not getting any rest this year when I am done with the rats.
Lot of rats got sold cheap early again. I sold 250 in early Dec for 7.12 and I'm okay with that.\\
This was a good sale for a January sale.
too bad a guy didnt have some red fox like the old days.

tman eastern SD No real winter so far to speak of, Iowa no real winter to speak of, MO no winter at all, Illionois the same. What parts outside of the Missouri river valley where under water? Many parts of the midwest most coon trappers are done with harvest by turkey day, not so this year open ground above normal temps across a wide area and many areas with open water today.
I will wait to post anymore of my thoughts until the first NAFA go around I guess.

A buyer down this way who buys in sections of 2 states stated he bought a pile of coons this year, more than the last few.
Stands to reason hard winters are tough on all forms of wildlife, but coons and other species can rebound quickly. In open areas like the plains hard winters have decimating effects on big game numbers and clean up mange in a hurray as well.

Your thinking of the wrong "buddy" and the buddy I am thinking of is in the hills.
The "buddy" you are thinking of didnt even come close but did well.
But no doubt about it if you had a distemper outbreak in your area in can be defined to an area.,
Maybe its the golden malrin.
Or maybe they are just dead.
there is more pressure this year it seems.
Nick, after talking to my guy a bit yesterday he is buying as many coon or more as ever.
Nick, I swore up and down the rat harvest would be down this year the way the water levels are but it aint going to be the case.

Tman I'm talking harvest as it relates to prices paid for coons. Your area and others might be down but I'm betting the number of coons sold and harvested in the US will be up compaired to prior years meaning the last 5-6 years. That will have a corrilation to prices paid it all comes down to supply and demand and what the carry over might be. If we see 50-65% sold that tells us what? Selling half of a abnormally high harvest comapired to previous years could hurt future years correct?

According to NAFA and the fur they are receiving It's HUGE coon harvest.
But what I'm seeing In the few coon my buddy brought In today there Isn't much fur on them.
