Not trapping, but sue me... My buddy, Beagle, passed away today. He had a good trip to WY to visit the grandkids, but Tues just started slipping away. Warmed up the truck and went on a 200 mile ride this morning- glory days...Beagle sleeping on my knee. Got home. Cuddled him a bit, and my son in law bless his heart came to take him to the vet. He died before Jason got down the block. Loved and spoiled to the end. Daddy's little man... I'll miss him... he was my constant companion- otter trapping, coyote trapping, mink trapping. gopher trapping, all the conventions, birders... I'll miss ya Binky... Boys, I ain't as tuff as I thought I was... The "Easter Beatle" visiting the kids in WY My and my guy last night...

I saw the title of the thread and got a lump in my throat.
Losing a dog is tough because there is very little in a man's life that gives unconditional love from the very first breath it takes to the very last.

God be with you. I think there must be a special sunny field somewhere for dogs. If not there should be. I don't keep dogs anymore. I've said good by to too many friends over the years. Both 2 and 4 legged. Take care.

Steve, may the spirit be with you and the "pup"
I had a similar experience when our Golden went blind when she was 11 years old. We set a date with the vet for putting her down. All the rest of the family that was going to come along that AM could not get up the nerve to come. So I took Tisa for her last ride just as she always did sitting in the back seat with her jaw on my right shoulder just like she always did. That was the toughest 8 miles I have ever driven. That was 8 years ago and still working up the nerve to get another pup. It is hard to describe how close one can get to a dog. It just seemed like she new what I was going to do before I new it myself.

This will be short as I try to type through the tears.
Sorry to hear of you and Loris loss.
May he ride the traplines of heaven in peace.

Sorry for your loss. The little mutts can get to a guy. My wife says she sometimes thinks I love our lab more than her. I'm sure there'll be a tear or two when she's gone. You still have all the memories that will bring a smile to your face.

That hurts.
They never live long enough, but that particular dog had a better ride than most. To top it off, the ride was with you guys. Not all beagles are so lucky.
Beagle was also lucky in the way he died. Lots of dogs go the cancer route, the pound route, the car wheel route ...
Heck, if it weren't for the fact that he's dead, I'd say your hound was one of the luckiest dogs around! (Lame humour but true nonetheless.)
It still hurts but the only remedy I know for it is time and a puppy. The good thing about the pup is that it fills the emptyness in the house real quick.
"This too shall pass."

Steve, You have my sincere feelings as well. I lost one a couple years ago and had to bury him in the back yard. Probably one of the toughest things I ever had to do. There was an article in the newspaper about the same time about a place called the "Rainbow Bridge" where dogs go after they die. They wait there till their master comes and takes them along the rest of the way. My eyes get so wet, I can't see what I'm typing. Stay tough. HP

Steve and Lori, The pain in your hearts will subside and the memories will last forever. Know that in beagle heaven his eyes are again bright, his voice strong and clear, his runnin' gear oiled and there's a bunny in every brush pile. He's lookin' down on you saying all is well. He just traded one damn good life for a new one. As one Dakota to another, I am glad to have made his acquaintance. JL

Its hard to lose a close friend. He looks content in that last pic, and I know he had a great life. He will be missed.
