Local buyer gave me some prices. I only have what he's paying for my top 3 species.
beaver $15 red fox $17 marten $22 (up to $35 for 2XL)
All prices in Canadian dollars - not that it makes any difference with the current exchange rate.
Not encouraging but at least he's buying!

A MI buyer on the "other" channel is saying,
"We're gonna open in the 8-10 area on the big coon. xx,xxx. With the selects in the 10-15."
Did not say whether that was round, green, or dry however.
Edit ( he updated his post to say the above prices will be for either carcass or skins, not finished).
fwiw.
I could make those figures work for me in my area of central SD if the prices are similar for my quality of fur. Do you think my coon quality is about the same quality as MI coon?
$10 carcass coon x 25 per day makes around $1,500 per week. What type of weekly trapping profit are some of you other trappers trying to make?

You will not receice ten dollar averages anywhere on carcass coon from what I hear.I would love to get that I could make some money rather than skin and hope they go up.

The fur buyer that posted that is calling those his highs.
I stopped at his place yesterday on my way home from working in the area.
He said avg. should look like 4-5 dollars with tops of 15.

Yep, that's an average. But buddy doesn't deviate from average too much.
I'm not disappointed with the fox price. I can live with the marten price too. Marten are easy to catch and a joke to skin. The $100 ones were cool but it's a different world right now.
Beaver for $15 isn't going to happen. Nuisance beaver only. Dog food beaver only. There will not be a large beaver harvest on the lines this year. Too much work!
As I wrote earlier: at least he's buying. That means there IS a market.

till he pays some cash, he is still just yakking. and maybe he wil get stuck with them and eat them. there is a market, and there is a MARKET. one is real and the other is a facade with nothing behind it.

one way to look at it, if someone dropped several hundred to several thousand furs, say coons, on your doorstep, knowing what you know today, what would you pay for them? if you`d pay anything, you need to buya liscence to buy!

Appreciate the feedback about SD coon quality and the price talk. I am trying to decide if I trap this year or not and all this information helps.
What type of profit makes this trapping worthwhile or not, financially, $100/day, $200, $500/day.

aint gonna be any $10/ave carcass coons, ANYWHERE, in the entire US. True heavys (and TRUE heavys) Might do $8. So that rules out everyone south of ND/SD border. Someone might find somthing like 6-7 ave, but 20-25% will chucked before you get that ave. Might be some freak deals happen if one knows a retarded furbuyer.
Just ask yourself, when buyers all across the country, including, MN, WI and SD, are saying they want to buy carcass coon at a $4-$5 ave, why in the world would anyone stick their neck out and buy them for $5 more than the prevailing ave?
first time i hear someone say they are getting a $10/ave on carcass coon, Ive got 2 questions for them: how many did you throw away 2. how many did he throw away? to get that ave.

Don't think it's possible to make any money selling for 4,5 in the carcass.Going to try to put up my coon and hope for the best.Trouble is I'll need another freezer most likely.

The FFG market report made an interesting comment. It said the best 10% to 25% of the fur will be bought by speculators, but they will only make token offers or ignore the rest.

I think Musher reported local buyers in his area paid around 25 for beaver and fox last fall. Big diff this year.
