My suggestion: buy a 22-250 and use 55 grain bullets.
I'm sure you will get many opinions.....

I love my .17Rem and swift but I hear that the .204 is a GREAT comprimise between the two. Is this going to be a calling rifle or something for long range shooting? Are you interested in the fur or just puttin them down?

In my opinion, LB picked out a good one. I prefer .223 with a 60 grain v-max but there is definately more than one answer to this question.

I see O'gorman uses a .257 STW. Any info on that caliber? I use a .204. swift,or .223. depends on the situation.

HOT maybe 500-700 rounds before the throat is gone on that caliber....just set barrel back and do it again.where did I see that [that O'gorman used that], just saw it somewhere ?

Now want, that is a whole other issue. LOL. Great reputable company! Their lightweights SHOOT! Sorry if there was a problem with the link? Search Match Grade Arms, they've built two rifles for me, both tack drivers.

What happened to O's .220 swift? With the price of bullets even for reloaders if you do more then dogs, better go with a small cal. ..22 mag, .17 Bill, thanks for the warning

I don't think Crais gun is fur friendly ..... never was ...lol....if i was looking to kill then that swift one heck of a one to beat in my mind but for fur the 17 does me fine.Need to try the 204 and get better idea how it is, sometime the 17 almost too little and the swift too much[again this is a fur gun for me]

I would not get a .204, don't believe they will be around real long. Great article out in FF&G this month on light cal. rifles

It all depends on your shooting abilty, handloading, range.
The 20's are here to stay and with a better BC than the 22cals. 20 Tactical at 4200 fps with a 32-36grn'er is going to be hard to beat. As Greg Tannel says "It's a death Ray"

17-22 calibers great for short mid range if you want longer range the 6mm's is great! You have good BC and grood energy for longer range shots you can run them cooler and have great wind drift back to the BC of the bullet.
I don't like bullet splash and hard to find a great coyote bullet in smaller calibers IMO, so I use a .243 with 95 grain Nosler BT"s a thicker jacket, good BC and will print small groups. Will knock the socks off coyotes and fur damage isn't that bad if you want to save hides. Bullet placement is critical in most cases with most calibers, just not as critical I feel with the 6mm's and better bullet choices better designed for coyotes at mid to long range.
To me a varmint bullet is not a coyote bullet again IMO. Ogorman and his .257 STW that is funny and he is a funny man, has to have something different just to be different. He gains nothing over the standard 25-06 except cost him more for a barrel job and brass. He could accomplish the same things with a .243 or .243 AI if he wanted to be a little different or a standard 25-06 or short action .260 for deader than dead coyotes. Ah craig you got to love him.
your .17-20 cal bullets in that 30 ish grain range pushing all that speed on a coyote shoulder will result in runner coyotes, laws of physics and bullet offerings no getting around that. I saw it with 80 grain in 6mm makes a big mess and slows them down, but run they will. A hunting bullet designed for more impact goes on through and their lays a really dead coyote all be it a bigger hoel but to me the importance is a really dead coyote if I miss calculate wind some.

Ha, I use a 270WIN. our coyotes are worth anything so fur damage is not an issue. I like the fact of using one rifle for all hunting. Though 270 on prarie dogs gets expensive if you do not reload.
