It really looks like we in IA are going to loose the live issue even to collect our own urine for a few weeks. IF a guy was to get a breeders lics and house a few head of fox and yotes what kind of production could he expect from ea critter during the collection times.
Yes I know they cost to feed, I am lucky in that area as I have all the feed and then some that has of now is being burned at the present time.

if you get ranch fox you do not need a license as they are considered livestock in IA

if you have the room for a coyote in a pen- how on earth, if feed is free, can it cost you you more than buying? Coyote whisper got 20 some gals last year from his, at zero cost but a little time to feed and collect-

I'm curious, how many yotes did the whisper have? to get 20gal.
All that stuff would need to be washed every day/2.

the 20 gals was an estimate- I know he brought 6 gals to FTA last year and his buyer backedo ut, so I bought that- plus i knew what he had at home- so maybe not 20 gals, that was a reasonable guess- but certainly 15 or more-
I can see it being a pain in the butt- but if you have a farm, and free feed, actual cost isn't going to be much at all-
I'm not minimizing commecrical production- I'm sure thats a different thing entirely- but for ones own use-
I'm betting a lot of western guys keep a coyote or cat for urine-

Bob, from a users standpoint what should I be looking for when buying coyote, bobcat, or fox urine? Color, smell, consistency, etc?

? I know when I worked on a horse farm ( racing horses) they would feed extra salt to make them pee for drug test would this sort of thing work with k9s ?

doesn't salt make you retain water? if so, then more salt should make a stronger pee

All I know is that it makes horses go more and faster

It would make you thirsty and drink more, which would end up making you pee more.

3 gallons per yote per month. that's 30 days of feeding, watering and cleaning the cage. plus cleaning all the crap off everything or risk all of it going bad. don't know? sounds like a lot of trouble?, guess all of us should try it. i've thought about it a couple times, reckon i will some more. darn flies would drive a feller crazy now.

Darn, With Bobs explanation of urine collection I have a new found respect for the hard work of those who do it. I had no idea about the problems encountered with prolonged cage coyotes and the drop in urine production. I have never real complained about the prices charged for urine and definitely not going to start, now that i have a small idea of whats involved. dgarrett

Dont sound much different from raising rabbits in numbers, I already got the cages and most of the equipment.

Collecting pee is fun & easy, please, everyone give it a shot...you can really get rich quick...
As a Scottish fellow (that works in the USA) once told me....... "I go home to Scottland and they say, Danny your so rich that you must have a different coat for every day of the week"
You too can have a coat for every day of the week....bob is just trying to scare off guys from collecting.

no one is minimizing the effort on commercial ventures tim, I'd agree would be a lot of work and PIA.
but I was around jeffs coyote for a 10 days, and for personal collection if you have the room, pretty easy deal.
hey Jason- you got room for a coyote right?

you could probably hold a bucket under one of those stud race horses and have just as good urine as a coyote and a lot easier. I bought some urine one time and I think It had a faint smell of the cow barn. In fact if I remember correctly the guy ran out of urine and had to run back home to get more. I can see It now a whole line of horses with catheters all running to common collection point. Or a line of female coyotes with catheters. How come you never thought of that Bob. It would be just like tapping sugar maples.

Bob- that was in the days before we had coyotes here-
thing is in hounds, its not like labs or trainable dogs- whatever that pup is, he is when hes born- you just have to give him opportunity. So as a breeder < I kept all pups until 4-6 months- I needed to know what I had-
so 75 would be top end-
usually had say 5-10 trial dogs in various stages-
a few good gun hounds for me
a bunch of gun hounds in various stages for sale
a couple brood bitches-
usually had a Fd Ch stud as well- although I bred outside more than in-
and I'd breed 3-4 sometmes 5 bitches a year-
too many- like milking you have to be there 2x a day

I have no doubt of the work involved-
if its $25 a gal, how come I paid more? don't tell me I got your special friends price............?
