Hi Dwaine, consider changing your screen name to "piloerection", means the same as "bristleback" but kinda intrigues the chicks. ;D
The 6-284 is a dandy. Wring it out proper and enjoy. It will literally blow the life out of a coyote. Do your part and you will certainly have no runners. The only downside is that there are so many great bullets for this caliber that you can wash out a barrel in short order just testing each one. However, since you are a rep for Hornady, you really don't have to worry about choice. As you already know pick one for a given application , work it up quickly and then terrorize the local predator, deer, antelope, etc. populations because you have chosen a "one caliber does it all". You are going to have so much fun. You gotta come back here with that badboy. My camcorder is biting the bit.

Higgins, you know this guy? He's been yanking my chain! Make him stop!
BTW, did anybody notice that the title of this thread is "Factory Fur Cartridges"? 6/284? yeah, right!
As per our last talk; I thought you would be out hunting and taking pictures, this morning?
Good hunting. LB

Leonard, I have a great deal of respect for you, not because we've meet, but because of those I know and respect, respect you.
I'm not yanking your chain, evidently we disagree that "stock" companies should have a few basics "in stock", no pun intended; one of them being a Remington 700. Grocery stores more often than not have milk and bread "in stock and ready to buy".
I look forward to meeting you some day, respectfully, Dwaine

No problem, partner. I'm yanking your chain, a little, no disrespect intended. If Higgins says you're okay, that's good enough for me. Good hunting. LB

What twist on the 6X284 ??
I have a Greenwalt built 6x284 and a Simonsin 243 Ackley both are awesome but I haven't found the issue on throat wear that most talk about in the 6x284 1900 rounds plus and that rifle still prints easy .4's 5 shot groups all day. 29.5" Lilja 1x14 twist.

Good Thread, and MarkyMark gets a prize for the secret behind all the 6mms. If you are going to shoot coyote size bullets, 75 grains or less, the 1 in 14 twist is the secret. You can gain a ton of velocity before you pressure up or out. You can approach 4000 fps with 65 and 70 grain bullets in the 243 Ackley, 6mm Ackley, and 6-284 if you have the 1-14. Drop back to 1-10 and you can't even get close. I have a regular 243 with the 1-12 and it does well, and a 6-284 in the 1-14, and I have figured out that the 1 -14 is the way to go, unless you are shooting bigger stuff. 85 grains and up requires the faster twist. Fur guns? Nope. Not even close.

I have a 40X 6mm that I had reamed to 6mm Improved with a 1x12 twist. It loves the bigger bullets 75 and up. I started a load with Berger 95 grain VLD's and this rifle is a smoker on the 500 yard shots and out. But that's P Dogs. I still feel the 22Br is over looked by many shooters it will out shoot a 22-250 in accuracy and it's just on the heels of it.

My 6-284 has a 1-12 twist, with the idea of shooting around the 87 grn bullets.....give or take.
Kreiger barrel, 26".........should be arriving late next week.
What powders, primers do you like.........

H4350 is the powder of choice. Primers it's up to you. All my cases are primer pocket reamed and flash hole de burred using Sinclair INT tools. You should get a stoney point depth gauge for seating.

My 6-284 loves H414. Same burn rate as 4350, but in a ball powder. Definately requires magnum primers though.
