I use the belly cut as many do, but I also work the hide, after its on the board and before its pinned, from below the ears to half way down the back with a single handled scraper and seem to make them grow a little more. Anyone have anymore tips?

when using wood and when i sold fur to the locals i would use channellocks to pull down on the hide then staple to the strecher...but you can gain length if you skin them on the inside of the legs and not straight across the back of the leg to the a$$...i was useing wire for the last couple years and am going back to wood...i think the wood gives you more uniform looking hides...i sell at the local fur sale so length isnt as important as a local fur buyer would LEAD you to think.... i got so tired of the locals going thru them 4-5 times checking them and sorting into 4-5 lots....what a joke.....it was just a buyers gimmick....to get you to bend over and take it....lol sorry but after a few years at the auction watching what goes on the yard stick game is just a sales gimmick.....

I skin way up to the peter opening, and throw those flaps onto back. I even split the bunghole and stretch that too. no need to cut a window as it`s on the back already. there really is an art to it. 8 lb coon= 32" , everytime.

I can get the back down as far as the hind legs and I skin them right down to the pad. been known to even skin a tad-o-pad . pleated tails to boot and grease reliefed in and out. look so good you want to keep them forever just to look at.

On those 8 pounders, are the belly flaps longer than the tail? The mexican grader or the square inch machine probably don't notice. Some chinaman is probably cussing over it though. Coon butthole and pecker fur probably looks good on a Russian. lmao

you don`t get much bung skin on an 8 pup pup coon, but those old monkey faced boars, holy macheral, looks like you are tacking out an orange peel. hope my toosh doesn`t look that bad, but I`m not getting a mirror to ck. it out.

Hay Guys, You are just fooling yourselvs. Belly fur is easy too easy to see and does not count. Yes you gain lenght, but you go down a grade. This uselly a bigger loss.

When you skin "leg to leg" you are not getting belly fur, you are getting the fur off of the but of the coon which is the same as the back of the coon. If you skin from the foot to the anus then to the other foot you are putting fur on the belly side that does not belong there and is often cut out to create a window. Do not get away from where the hair changes on a coon when you make your opening cuts.

even the arsehole is used in a proper put up for money. as I said, it`s an art handling fur for maximum money return and there are many extras a guy can do.

I don't think our 8 pounders are 32" from nose to tip of tail. Must be some long, skinny flockhart type coon.
I put some belly on the back, but seems skinning to the pecker on an 8 pounder and putting that much belly on the back would result in the tail being shorter than the sides. No?

if you want to skin out the arseholes and think thats getting you more money, then thats how you will do it.
but please, please don't think you are the only one here that knows how to put up fur- I find that very insulting.
Arseholes taint easily- and in my mind, leaving them on finished fur is a no no.
You gain no length that matters, and you aren't fooling anyone- any fur buyer sees what it is.

and I agree with td- an 8 lb coon will not go 32 inches here. or even close to that.

just a coon guys, you do it yourway and everyone else does it his way, still a greasy coon in the end. bob said 6 1/2 inch wide coon, which will go much longer than if at 8" wide. coon here avg 10 pounds or so and many in the 30-32 inch range at 7.5-8 inch wide so could see him doing what he says if narrower. i thought you guys had huge coon up north so the 8 lb coon comment shouldnt even be of any concern to you.

tman, want to bet? but lets make it for real. you bring me an 8 lb coon and watch me make it 32" and grade *select. I`m not the only one that knows how to do this tman, most everyone that boards coon knows how, thanks to gary armstrong years ago. but it`s a cinch you don`t know how or you wouldn`t refuse to beleive it can be done. I can give advise and show, but if you insist on holding your eyes shut and your hands over your ears, then I`m talking to the wall. t.d, that belly tag isn`t pulled down, more sideways. tman the butthole even is scraped, therer is no taint at all, none. frankly I don`t know why I even post this stuff. I think you`d look a gift horse in the mouth . I`ve sent thousands to nafa in years past done this way, no "fooling me " complaints, just top lot-ers.

why do you think you are the only one that traps and puts up fur that knows anything about it?
I grew up with trappers and coon hunters, and we always boarded the coon. money cut- every good coon man around has been doing it that way for years.
you want to make it real- all my coon to you $16 st- and there will be nothing under 10lbs- I'll let you make all the money on it. All from Oct 20th on.
I'm waiting....
