I hate these Cages with a passion, You can't carry very many of them in a little Tonka toy Toyota. and they are a pain to set up and take care of, but when that is all you have, you learn to adept or quit, and I'm just too dang old to up and quit, but before we lost our foot holds here in Cali in 98, I had played around with some cages on a friends Ranch that had a bunch of Bobcats, and he also had some Ranch dogs, and Foot Holds were out of the question as far as he was concerned, so I started tinkering with a few Cages, and Low and behold I caught a couple cats. the first week, then I got serious and started playing with some thoughts that would catch a cat. and came up with a collapsible cage with no inside frame, just put together with j-clips and hog rings, and 1x1 by 14GA wire, the cage was a 12x18x36 and I also quickly learned all about Cheap Chinese wire, After losing 3 cats out of 15 cages I found that there is nothing like good old American made Red Brand Wire after replacing all the Chinese junk with Red Brand I have not lost one Critter. Just bored tonight and rambling. Haven't caught very many either, ;D Yancy

Oh yeah C.C. and there are Cage thief's out here also, and when you get a cage stolen or busted up, it's not like just going and getting another trap, you spent some time and money making these dang things, and along comes a thief and he takes 5-6 cages you are out of business in a hurry, lucky for me I have a Game Warden in my area that checks a lot of folks out in the area I trap, Including me. ;D and he makes sure I also check my cages every 24 hours, which a 24 hr trap check don't bother me, I figure if I Make a catch get it out then I give another one a chance to get in, when you have a critter in a trap you have to get it out before you can catch another one in that trap. The Warden has caught two people with a stolen Cage's. one of mine, and two of another trappers, so I'm dang glad to see them on the line. Yancy

I sure love those cages I got from you. I used a cable and lock for mine. Locked to a tree. They can cut the cable or lock, but most idiots stealing in the forest dont carry a bolt cutter with them, they either have to go back to their truck or home to get one. We too have a 24 hour check law. Hopefully when they see tha cage they will leave some tracks in the mud and I will see them around the cage, if so, I will move it a bit before they get back to it. I have had mink traps stole from the river and some muskrat coloies but they are not to expensive to make, so those I dont mind as much. Plus there is alot more traffic on the rivers than in the forest during winter time, steelheaders out every day.

Maybe you should just give up that lousy old cage trappin. By the looks of some of those cats your buddies from up there had at the sale looks like you should be driving north instead of south anyways. 117 degrees couple times last week down here. Desert dry as can be. Record low precipitation.

my hats off to you cage guys. I`m afraifd I`d need a severe pep talk to get excited about cages and giving up on the foot traps. those tracks in the snow, heck , I`ve got that with foot traps before too, so don`t feel like the lone ranger in that department.

I caught a big old female bobcat in a cage last year with about 4 days left in season. Reset sure that a tom was in the area and would be by to see where she had been. He must of circled that livetrap 30 times last night of season but never went in. It would have made me feel alittle better to just seen those kind of tracks colorado cat the circling 30 times kind of got too me LOL.

'Late in the season I always move down to the flats (coyote Country, as some folks would call it) I mostly set double cages 25 feet apart. 'you'd be shocked how productive it can be!

I learned that and you just reenforced it. I never just set one foothold per location so why was i doing it with cages. I look back and am pretty sure I could have had a double. Quite a few places I have to run cages instead of footholds and I will definetley try the double cage set up per location.

Geeze! Jeremy, I didnt think anyone would notice! It was about 20 degree's that morning, so I had to shed the Tenny's and leather gloves. Damn them leather gloves will freeze your fingers in cold weather! Bristle, I am getting soft! (and fat too)
