I choked on 4 wolves. They were following a deer. When they split up one walked towards a blind set snare but did a u-turn to rejoin the pack a couple of hundred feet away. They then walked within 5 feet of a dirt hole and later a urine post set. They didn't even break stride. i had relured the day before but it rained an awful lot. Wind? Rain? They ignored everything? Who knows. I wish that I would have had sets on both sides of the road but I can't due to visibility issues (thieves!) I'm peeved though. I hope I get another crack at them. I've added 2 snares and a third foothold.

Oh well, it's still early. Now you can get to know them better before you catch them.

One swung back last night. It was waiting in a CDR. The trap took a bit of a pounding and I need a new dog.
It was an adult female. Not an Alpha as the nipples are still new!!
There was a bit of excitement as the chain was rather long.
There's nothing like checking wolf stuff in the dark with really weak batteries.
I've got pix but we're having computer problems right now so they'll have to wait.

Nice wolf!
You wearing neoprene chaps? I'm always looking for ideas to beat the cold and wet snow.

Thank you for the comments.
The colour is good on this wolf. There's no tawny and lots of silver.
They might look like a big coyote but i think that they are pretty different. The major difference is the time investment in getting them. They turn a huge circle and patience is required before you see them again.
I'm not wearing chaps. They are jeans with nylon sewn on the front. Cabela's has them. Great pants that keep you dry and fairly warm.
I yanked the rest of the sets from that location this afternoon. I didn't really want to but the snow put everything out of commission. The truck bottom scrapes now and a storm might come through this week-end.
The dogs will probably get hooked up starting Sunday!

yeah lot of snow... going to bed now leaving at three am 1st check on the marten line. had reports from couple marten trappers tonight, same results as in your area musher... very poor marten catch so far. If my line produce like everybody else...I don't expect many catches this w-end.

No wolves here. Bet they would be fun too catch. Those are brush pants available at most sporting goods stores. I have apair that smell like procoon and xldc. Took a friend woodcock/grouse hunting one time and he laughed an said . Look at Mike with the Sissy Pants. At the end of the day his legs were all torn up. He thought he would get a pair of those Sissy Pants.

Thanks for the tip. CDR dogs are already tricked up for wolf. It isn't that the dog is bent. It's GONE!
I was talking to a fellow trapper tonight . From our chat I think the other 3 wolves have been harvested. He told me that the guy on the next line over snared three around the same time as I got my single. He's a nice chap who was head warden around here.
Except the bugger just retired so he's trapping more!
Another reason why you can't choke on wolves when they swing by.

The territory's have just beeen opened up so there will be more soon, with one pack gone. Multiple snares on a dead bait island and never go into it, just circle with skidoo and check the leeds.
