I am looking to buy one the t-handled type, only a couple feet long, Mr.Wendt reffered to them as a hog snare. I have been looking everywhere for one for several months with no success. Our big and small tractor supply type stores dont carry them , no trapping supply website I have found has carried them at a decent price. If anyone has a supply store where they have seen these please post the web address here, I am only looking to spend $15-$20 on the hog snare itself. Thank You Hatch

I`ve never seen a farm supply store that did not carry them, i.e. big blue, tractor supply, orchelins , farm bureau/ag one, etc. where do you live? must not be hog country.

try www.valleyvet.com They are called a hog holder..........$15.95 look in farm/ranch section and do a search and while your there, order a pair of muck boots, they got em as cheap as anyone. I am on my 2nd full year on a pair, I used to wear out 2 pair of the servus/redball type winter boots a season.

Call "Hill Top Cage Shop" and talk to Brian or Rosa Cunningham (owner/ operators) as they make most of the ones sold by most trapping supply dealers.
Phone number is 573-754-5962.
Brian and Rosa are GOOD PEOPLE to do business with.

THose hog catchers are one step up from a piece of pipe and a rope- but do yourself a favor and spend the $$$ to get a good one.
Ketch-Alls are spendy, but what a difference...

I use to use the hog catcher but 5 years ago I got a ketch all pole.It cost 89 bucks and it was worth every penny.I know alot of you boys use the hog catcher but the ketch all to me is safer plus the loop is alot bigger (which really helps with dogs).

Yes the Ketch-All poles are nice but extremely expensive...I had a cable break on one mine this winter (at the anchoring ferrule) and the replacement cable for these poles is over $30.
The toughest most econmomical pole on the market is the PVC poles and they last until the lock / latch fails. They run around $30 each. For big & nasty's (dogs, bear cubs ect.) they are what I reach for first. I know Rick Hemseth sells the pvc poles but don't have a number for him, several other dealers sell them as well.

those hog catchers are plenty servicable. I always replace the 1/8th cable with 1/4" right off. it`s easy and less than a buck. carry 1 in the back and 2 behind the seat for leave behinds and replacements when needed, beat heck out of a forked stick. no need for the 90 dollar deal for me and I handle usually far in xcess of 1,000 head a year for about 20 years now. cheap and stout and replacable for near nothing when the locks wear or cable frays. go 1/4" with a hammered steel nut and they won`t go south on you. make the loop bigger too when changing and braze the cable right onto the pull pole ending and you have as good as money can buy for 1/5th the price.

Well Bob- I SAW the pole you used. I'd leave that behind also.....
Seriously- kinked and curled cable- THATS the advantage of a Katch All- plus the easy spring loaded release....

I make my own and have found that 7x19 1/4 cable wont curl and kink as quick.

the long pole in the videos part of the time is a dorfus outfit I had gave to me. I onlty use it when the coyote is nutso or hind footed and I have to lasso him , as it has a loop I can get 3 feet across if need be. my normal go to pole is the common hog snare.

Thank you everyone for your help. I searches out a few new names and found what i'm looking for. Suprisingly though most places I couldn't find em, maybe they all use different names for them, I've heard hod snare hod holder and hog catcher, type in the wrong one and the search comes up empty. Thanks Again Hatch

What are you using it for? I made a collapsible PVC one for choking cats for about 5$ the locking mechanism is ferrules pounded on the cable every inch, although some people have used chain in place of the ferrules, my main concern was weight so I didn't

I got a piece of crap I paid about $10-15 for. It's a pipe with a cable and a tee handle. Works about 66 2/3% of the time. OK. In fact I do have it in the truck but I never carry it. Looks good though in the truck. Frankly I have easier ways of handling unwanted catches. I either say "boo" or put salt on their tails.

Ketch all pole $99.75 Animal catcher or hog snare In the 4' size 21.95. I have the cheap one and It's 9 years old and It's handled more coyotes fox and cats then those of you that just use your ketch pole for handling the occasional dog you want to release. It's heavy duty enough that i can lift a 40lb coyote off the ground and slip It Into a carrying cage. Never failed me yet. Oh ya I replaced the cable this year. No springs to replace only one moving part and I don't think that 1/4 rod will ever wear out. Buy the cheap one and you will have a life time tool.
