You go out on the ocean. You pour pails of cut up fish chunks and blood over the side. You take a fish, put it on a hook and toss it out in the chum slick.
Along comes the shark and his buddies.
One of them grabs the fish with the hook, gets pulled onto the boat, gets the billy treatment and then the hook is rebaited and another one is caught.
We are the sharks. The chum is the promises that were made about how the process will work. The bait is the promised results. The hook is the real intent. The billy club is the laws that will result from the entire process.

That sounds close to me. A couple years back we got a person put in charge of the ADC permits that was, or is, a little ambitious. After a while they came up with the idea, I'm sure they got a few calls from antis asking about our regs, that our permit regs needed to be looked at. Im not sure if it was a desire to help the antis, or just the idea thaty they had to power to change the rules, and there fore would. At the first open meeting they held, I expected to hear a list of problems and complaints that had spawned a need for change. But we heard none. Meeting after meeting the antis brought up horror stories from other states as reasons to tighten our rules and the DNR never offered anythin for or against the statements. That's what will happen with the BMP's. Some mid level manager who wants to pad out his resume will suggest re-writing the trapping regs to"get ahead of the curve" or to " get on the cutting edge". And then they get codified into the regs or laws and we get the shaft. And all over the country the trapper groups will cry " That's not what we meant"!!!

1. Whats stopping your mid level guy from doing that , past/ present? The future you would blame that on the BMP's? I don't know about your states, but most states look and have discussions about regs and laws on everything at least once a year, good game depts don't make change just for the sake of change! Also the books would have to be open and looked at and discussed in your legislator, before any law changes could be made! If you feel that badly against your DNR, then your state trappers assc/ or NWA in your state needs a better lobbyist. It's not one guy sitting in his office that gets to set down and write out new regs. 2. I don't see state anti groups or national groups, putting there stamp of approval on the BMP's, by doing so they are saying we agree with this process, and have seen the light that there are good tools for trappers to use. So who would be pushing the BMP's; in your state to become law? Peta and HSUS are against ALL! trapping period and won't be groups to back or endorse BMP's, for them to do so would be political suicide, and go against all they have been spouting these past 30+ years. So tell me how will the BMP's be a plus to them? The sharks are the ANTI groups who are very well funded, the hook is the lies told by such groups, and the trappers in States like Mass,Colorado,Arizona, and California, where the poor chum and bait, and got gobbled up by the sharks/ antis, in these states.

Steve has picked up on one of my biggest peeves about the process.
At the beginning, they were "only going to be for footholds".
Now they are f-ing around with snares, conis. and next will be cages and shooting/dispatch methods.
