a comment on the bent triggers- A friend many years ago, told me that he had far less of that, if he set the trap so that the dog was facing the direction of the approach ie about 6 oclock.
That way the dog was at the bottom when a coyote was caught, and thus wouldn't be in the line of fire when a coyote chewed on the trap. And I found that to be very true, when I still used dog on, and started setting it a 6 rather than 3 or 9- my bent dogs dropped way down to almost non existent.

The Harris NDZ is dogless and has 2 triggers but I seriously don't believe the coyote chomped on the triggers, I believe it got a jaw under the pan and chomped. The way the pan is constructed it wouldn't be hard for this to happen by lifting one edge of the pan, the pan acting as a lever actually. He told me my crunch-proof swivel was too close to the trigger and the coyotes hooked the trigger inside the swivel and bent it. I tried every conceivable way to make this happen in my vise but could NOT make this happen as Harris suggested.
If Harris was right, why wouldn't he make sure every buyer knew you had to use so many links of chain before adding a swivel or youwere going to damage the trap? I just used the same chain setup I use on my Jakes.

Thanks Seldom, the video on hardening the steel is great. Not just for trapping application either.

I like them well enough that I bought another dozen once I "learned" the trap. Lowering the pan tension down from 5.5+#'s to 3.5# was a real education when dealing with two triggers!!! Some folks are probably happy with the 5.5+ lbs but I'm not. This will be my 2nd season using them and I think they're a better "winter" trap than the Jake. Hopefully folks watch all 4 videos because all 4 have what I consider important information in them.
