Can find an acorn once in a while. I didn't catch him at THE spot, shoot I don't even know if the location qualified as A spot. Not my first coyote but the first one I had a camera along for. Used a trash mound with the trap set back for coyote, Milligan style walk through. I don't have many traps out set for coyotes so it was nice to see the intended target waiting for me. Thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall around here. I learn more when I keep my fingers to myself. I have learned a lot lurking about here. Thank you.

Yes it is a nice photo Tweedle! If anything you read on this board is a help to you, then super. Discission though is always good.

Glad you guys liked the photo. I wasn't necessarily looking for congratulations, but thank you trappnman, for ME this was a step forward.
I agree never, discussion is always good. Given my experience level with trapping I don't have much of substance to add. But for discussions sake I can go through my thought processes for this set and you guys can dissect it, laugh or whatever.
It was a less than text book location, the only thing it had going for it is coyotes and bobcats were hunting rabbits there. No real travel way, pinch point, or dominant land feature for that matter. I was following a set of bobcat tracks through the area and it walked through a spot that would accommodate a snare rather nicely. I gave in to temptation and hung the snare. After a couple of checks I decided I needed to either pull the snare or add some opportunities. The exact location was chosen because there wasn't much snow under that tree so cleaning snow off wouldn't be too much of an issue.
My trash mounds are A LOT more subtle than many of the pictures I see. Subtle enough that one time a guy (he was young) set a trap under the same tree as me and used my trash to build his set. I like them for 'cats, and I had read, and tracks in the snow confirmed, that they held interest to coyotes. I wanted some eye appeal and didn't want to dig a hole in frozen ground.
After that it was waiting it out. It took 3 weeks to connect but I'm there waiting on the 'cats to start moving and I still have traps in the box. Not too efficient. It is a good thing my livelihood doesn't rely on this in more ways than one.
