Realizing that most members of this Board are experienced trappers doesn't necessarily mean that all are experienced with the latest technology as it applies to trapping documentstion. As I've stated many times, I test all "scents" twice before they are used on my lines but it doesn't stop there. I compare catch-to-set ratios of all my scents every year after season ends as well as compare catch:ratios between years. Doing this gives me an objective not subjective comparison between scents.
I use to use an application on my IPad called Penultimate and it worked decent for hand-drawing and writing set locations and what scents were used where. That application quality went downhill with changes by Evernote so I switched to an application called Notability. This is in my opinion a great improvement in record keeping as it pertains to trapping, specifically a coyote/canine line. Since I use an IPhone in the field it's very easy to draw OR type data in right at the trap site or in your truck. Also whatever I write or draw on the phone is also on my IPad AND my Mac PC due to ICloud.

I assume your descriptions are for type of sets and attractors used? Also is the x for a catch? Thanks for sharing, I am wanting to do something similar.

Hi Aaron, A single "X" represents a dirt hole and the "XX" represents a walk-thru set. The acronym "HBB-KLDC-BH" does represent the scents I used at the set. In this instance "Homemade Bacon Bait-Keg Creek Long Distance Call-Bounty Hunter" On the last page is where I record catches 11-16 1C. DH HBB-CH-FN represents a coyote caught(1C) made on Nov 16th(11-16) in a dirt hole(DH) with scents "Homemade Bacon Bait-Cachottier-F-N Coyote"

How long does it take to input all that data? Lines, labels and such?

How long does it take to input all that data? Lines, labels and such? Whatever time it takes and I figure about 50% longer and FAR more legible then this hand-written example from 2010- As I said previously, I don't run so many traps that I can't remember where they are except when I'm deep-snow trail setting. I'm primarily looking for the data concerning scents. I want to know which scents or scent combos give me for example a 1.6 catch-to-set ratio and the ones that only give me a 3.2 catch-to-set ratio.

I have to concede I'm old school on this- pen and paper- I like to have things all spread out when utilizing the notes
I set up the same locations for years, and I do make maps- but they are so rudimentary in that they are a line for crops, a line for access, and and X or F for a set-
most years first loop, I do some experimenting- this year the main test was between 2 baits, and 2ndly between 2 dominant lures- to see if there was any noticeable difference in catch rate- off hand, I do not think it did- but that's observation, not going to notes and verifying. This year we alos had a sub test- lori always used a set combo, and I used a different one- following loop we switched- again, no noticeable difference
I kept track of age/sex this year for the entire season, something I don't do normally and will be interesting to see the results. how accurate its gong to be is iffy- with the difference between "old" and young" being 12-18 months- its observation for a large group- many times what I took into consideration as muscle tone, broadness of head and nose when skinning- so I'll share that when I crunch the numbers
mainly the map is if I keel over- with loris help and the maps- my line can be pulled and to be honest- a note at a few sets to pinpoint location, sure helps in snow.
