The major problem we have today is that we use politics and or parties to define the Constitution that was written, drafted and adopted by politicians who worked together to create the document not against each other for personal or political gain. By their working to find ways to govern even with great differences of opinions they were able to maybe not silence but turn down the rhetoric of the talking head types and their worshippers.

Bryce isn't that how Supreme Court justices are picked? The president at the time of the opening gets to make the selection and if either side of congress has the votes he gets appointed to the court for lifetime? Our highest court in the land whinch is supposed to use the constitiion as it core findings in cases, but one needs to only look many times on issues in our highest court the voting on those issues and how they are broken down by politics.............

So you are zeroing in on the US Supreme Court and not even looking at where all the laws and exec order originate? Leap frog of convenience if you ask me. The Court only interprets laws and exec orders and yes it is now a political issue. To me it is a real sign of where we are as a nation today. We put more value on which side makes an interpretation of a law than actually drafting the law and passing the law. So what you are really saying is why do we even need a Congress? Lets have the WH do a bunch of Exec orders and the 9 judges make their determinations. After all being judgmental is what we are all about these days.

Pretty much Bryce. Most laws anymore are Parisian politics and I believe Tman said, if you don't like the changes too bad as the democrats where/are running the show for now.
It is like congress trying to piggy back bills on to things that have nothing in common and trying to sneak them thru with a might arm. We had a vote on healthcare and the dems wanted to tack on a gun bill? What do they have in common?
Each bill should stand on its own and no adjoining of such, vote on separate issues one at a time unless they mirror one another.
The entire DC area is about politics. True story, a friend of my wife's who she went to school with, had Hillary Clinton at his house and we where invited LOL not free by any means but for a few 100 bucks we could eat and greet with the lady herself. Like I would spend 5.00 to eat with her LOL.
Anyhow it is all about networking and money and partisan politics the entire area out there is in a shambles with back door dealings and I for one would like to see a 90 percent house cleaning of congress myself. Start new and term limit all, congressional people 2 terms and time for someone else to move in. We allow congressional fat cats lifetime back door politics yet the president is done in 8 years, no wonder congress is in such a shambles. Good grief.

Politics is local as well and probably impacts your life more than federal does on a daily basis but continue to rant about how totally broken it is and offer little to show you have ideas for change. One thing I did learn when contacting my reps state and federal is that many times they did respond to thoughts and suggestions even more than when I just asked for a yes or a no on a bill.

Except local I have more impact than at the national level for sure. Unless living in a larger city. When I sat on the city council the people of the town had the ability to talk and discuss things at will when they saw me or at a city hall meeting if on the agenda, far more opportunity than those that get sent to DC for the most part and a larger impact on locals than the DC types, who many could care less about their state but more about party control. Of course with anything their are exceptions, John Thune is one such he is very good about keeping in touch with the people of South Dakota, far better than Daschale ever was. He was your typical DC insider and never came back after loosing his re election bid lives and resides in DC.
