The NAFA route agent came through today. There were 6 of us with some fur. Not a lot of fur and most were down from last year and the truck was not nearly as full as last year either. Mood was not horrible but quiet and the recent Packer Game fiasco was probably par of that as well. I separated my December rats from my fall rats to see how much difference there may be (97 winter and 38 fall) and the agent stated that in a down market there may not be much difference this year. I put up 10 poor coons for a guy and showed them to him last week. I wanted him to see them b4 I shipped them so he could actually see what they looked like. I have those in a separate account so he can see how they grade and sell along with his two mink as well. Now I just need to wait until March to see what if any changes there may be in the markets.

Well go,on NAFA site and look at the most recent wild fur update 5 days ago and things do not sound good even they say things will be tough.
Russian ruble exchange last year 32 rubles to 1.00 US dollar, this year rubles 65 per US dollar! that is valuing their money at more than half of last year.
betting trapping numbers will be off next year by a lot.

Bryce- would you have gotten more selling early local last year? I know my prices in nov and dec, were quite a bit higher than the prices at auction
I'm deciding now whether to wait to sell my last fur after the auction, or before.

If I would have sold in the grease very early I probably would have gotten a better deal on my coons. I may have gotten $14-$16 average in the grease on my coons but only $1.50-$2.00 more for put up coons. I averaged $19 at NAFA so after commissions I made about $18.20 or a couple bucks per coon by waiting and shipping. Rats I would have gotten about $2-$2.25 less by selling early locally. I averaged %12.39 b4 commissions at NAFA. $10 was about the highest average one was getting around here for fall rats. The best last year for me would have been to sell coons early and not put up and ship my rats. This year most local buyers feel the rat market is sideways or unknown and most don't want to hold on to too many coons waiting for that market to develop. Bryce

The best averages here for grease coon was about $20 with some tops at $30. By deer hunting season averages were about $10-$20 depending upon quality with the early coons being downgraded a lot by mid November already. Rats were never more than a $10 average here with prices like $12, $10, $8, $4. By early January $9.00 was closer to the norm for good runs then $10. We don't have as many buyers in our area competing for fur and that shows up more in our coon market than our rat market.
