Our cable season opens on the first. Plan to go after the yotes pretty hard. I managed to put cable on quite a few last year but got discouraged early on by a lot of chew outs. This year I built my cables out of 1x19 cable. Not so sure I like it yet as it seems stiff hard to work with and hard to load. I couldn't get a stop to hold an end swivel very well so I just made a loop on the end and added a heavy duty trap swivel to the end. If they chew out this year it is either quit using cables or try 1/8 inch. Anyone have advise?

Wow what are you using for stops? What size cable? I find the 1x19 easyer to load than 3/32.

Old biker try the black steel stops the tiny ones from snare shop that have some ribs inside to take a good bite onto the cable my favorite stops.
That is the issue with cable restraints, but your in the right direction going with 1x19 versus 7x7. the 1x19 loads well , anytime you keep a coyote alive with cable your going to find some chewing.......... dead coyotes can't chew but differences in snares and cable restraints and what states allow for sure.
Your chew out rate should drop down with the cable change.

Now that I have actually hung some and even caught one I find I do like the 1x19 better. It holds up better to the chewing (so far) and being a little stiffer I can put the lock lower on the loop and still have good shape and decent closing action.

I'm watching your posts closely OB because there's a long, outside chance that MI may adopt CR Regs to match yours. I love the 1x19 BUT I need to knowm how bad the kinking can be and the breaking of the strands when a coyote has 24hrs to kink and chew.
I snared when it came legal in MI back in 2000. My snares were set lethal and I started out buying Newt's 1x19 snares with slim locks and Gregerson's L-4 locks. Loved both set ups as "snares" and spanked'em good every year UNTIL MI went to the piece of sh-t cr's and I quit cable. I refuse to use such an inhuman devise as what's required for us in MI. I'd try WI cr's though except I don't much care for the big washer locks. If the loss rate is higher then I feel it should be with your Regs I'll continue using my footholds in the trails.

got two more this morn. so far out of three two had no strands broken and a huge male had one strand broke. Pretty good catch circles but I have no idea how long they were there. The 1x19 is a lot diff than the 7x7 but seems to be working very well so far. I will never set another cr made from 7x7.
