I've noticed something and I'm wondering if others have also.
We've all seen dogs be possessive about food. But have you ever seen them do it over water? I live on a river and dogs have access to it when they are free and they also have their own water buckets. To top it off I have a communal bucket. There is lots of access to good, clear, cold water.
Every day, when I have 6-7 dogs running about at the same time, some dogs water bucket gets commandeered. They line up and try to drink it dry. The dog buckets are maple syrup cans so they cannot physically drink it dry but they sure give it a go. They will wait their turn even though a similar bucket it only a few feet away.
The emptier the bucket gets the more they seem to want to finish it off.
The water never belongs to a dog that is high up in pack hierarchy.
Anyone else ever notice such behaviour?
