I have messed around a little with the concept but really not enough to know if there a good idea. I know some western guys use them and I believe that's all John Graham uses, with it sounds like a fairly big blocking out from the hole to guide . Anyone use this type of dirthole much?

Every remake I make is a walk though. I also make a few from scratch. They work great on lynx.

Steve's video shows a "walk-thru" so if you've seen his, you've pretty much seen mine! My blended "walk-thru" has out performed my deep, step-down dirt hole 4- 1 in previous years on coyotes. It is the one set that will without fail, catch reds and greys as easily as coyotes if not more so!! I will say though, my results could have been skewed because of the two sets being in close proximity to each other. and the blended set making the majority of the catches. Corr uses a similar walk-thru with single hole and he uses larger guides such as fist-size rocks.

I use lots of trenching type set and haven't tried a walk thru.It will be fun to trap coyotes in soft ground.Always trap when thing are rock hard.I do block hard on all sets.

I do like walkthroughs- but since I've gone to using an auger making deeper dirtholes, I have so much hole left over I tend to make it back into a st set, with perhaps a bit more front guiding.
my walkthroughs are always multiple small hole sets, usually (most always) 2, with a good back guard.
I think its a perfect fit for areas with dust and bare circles with grass around- short grass preferred, with the 3 cornered backings being taller weed clumps- I'll import clumps if needed.

Yep a narrow deep hole with a "coyote trap" like a size 3 and subtle guiding will catch the bulk of your coyotes. I have used walk thru's for many years just seem to make less with bigger guiding anymore. Subtle guiding works well and never was Into step down dirt hole type sets. If I set a rocky area "many western knobs" then larger guiding fit right in, worked well. A great guide is yucca they just can work it from the back side! A bait or lure that elicits a strong digging urge is money at dirt holes.

I use the concept that Tom Miranda had in his videos about 15-20 years ago on walk throughs and use them for my dirt and grass chaff sets.

I do consider Tom's book the book that first got me thinking about coyotes in a whole different way from other furbearers I trap
Tom's walkthrough is what I started with as well, he got that from Odon if I recall the conversation right
