I have always trapped them in town and never had a problem with using surveyors flags. Until I tried to catch a few out my back door, coyote took 2 brand new Albano traps. I have yet to find an efficient method of staking down large numbers of traps. What do you guy use ?

how I do it is this way-
on pan traps with a chain- loop the chain through the ring, and then put stake through- this causes the chain to bind when pulled up on the stake- very effective, and vastly better than wiring to stakes. for these traps, I use the simple fiberglass fence pole.
on cinches, etc- I use the metal Elec fence stakes, the ones with the triangle on the bottom- used upside down so triangle is on top
after many years- the above is quickest, easiest and most effective to prevent traps being stolen by badgers and coyotes. With coyotes esp, you need a long stake because they will pull on the gopher in a trap (unlike badgers which just dig them out and eat them there)and will bend stakes and pull trap off over stake
