got garden in and things are coming up very nicely-
did far more yardwork than I preferred
put on quite a few miles on the bikes
had a first hay cutting last week, another set up yesterday, should be busy now for a spell- bearcat- your technique worked to perfection, stopped that darn lock up on the cinches
encouraged by the coon sign, and as others have said lots of road kill
I'm not as discouraged as many about the fur market- coyotes doing decent, as long as I'm in that mid 20 range I'm content for my stuff as the bulk is oct coyotes. rats should be up, a good stream vegetation spring and while some floods nothing out of ordinary and up quick/down quick
my predictions, for me, in country
1) coyotes- good ones $35-40, poor $10-12 average mid to upper 20s
2) coon, real nice green coon $15, averages $11-12
3) rats starting $7 on up
4) otter about like last year- $85 real nice one, $60-65 average
5) beaver.....$15 average
6)fox- $35
7) badger $20-25 average
8) mink...ouch....$14-15 males, females $7-8
anyone else care to guess?
If I got the coon, I can make up the poor mink beaver prices, with rats as a bonus

I always enjoyed the PA convention- and the FTA/PA one a few years ago was biggest and best I ever attended.

I too think the market will be a little better than many think. That's going to be my mindset anyway. Seeing good coon sign, keep the floods away and rats have got to be better. Probably go to a convention or two and a couple other trapper events before season. Off season flying by.Almost too fast before you know it summer will be over. It helps when you trap beaver up to May first. That was a moneymaking trip. lol

Glad the cinches are working good now.. We have been up in Minnesota fishing all week.. Sounds like we will be replanting the garden when we get home. It is gone.. Bad storm went threw and power lines down.. Missing out on overtime.. Sounds like their working dawn to dark.. Plus m sure first cutting is up and a couple mole calls to take care of when home..

encouraged by the coon sign, and as others have said lots of road kill I'm not as discouraged as many about the fur market . . . If I got the coon, I can make up the poor mink beaver prices, with rats as a bonus Seeing dead 'coon down here too, Steve. The fur market will be what it will be, let's hope for $12 average on the green 'coon. Finding a few pockets of 'rats, but the river has been up here for quite awhile already, again, so who knows. Been busy with the rendezvous end of the fur trade. Set up at Bloody Lake Rendezvous early May and did okay, more of a family event than a money maker. 'Twas a rainy week but we know how to stay warm and dry. Battened things down and traded out of the front end of the trading lodge. Fella asked me if I could lace up a deer hide. Said sure, bring it along, and about finished it. Spent the last couple of weeks getting ready for Prairie du Chien Rendezvous. More of a "carnivous", but the money is good. Otherwise I work a local canoe livery in the summer, running folks up and down the river and unloading/loading canoes off a trailer. Good money, good tips, nice scenery. Got a couple new ideas to try out on the river this fall. Been tinkering with a multiple-day check 'coon set for shallow water. I'll give you a peek at the progress at the fall rondy, Steve.

oh yes....I drive by a local canoeing river quite regularly, and the scenery is very easy on the eyes.....
starting to get some new permissions, and starting to collect dry dirt as well- usually start much later in year, but want to have it done mid summer this year

Picked up ALICE packs, liners, and frames. Got a new cooler for the pop (coke, soda to some but really Pepsi products). Truck packed to the top of the cap trailer 1/2 full. Did you see where the price of wax went? I think I have enough for this season.

I think many of the supply houses did what I did. When the price was low we bought up as much as we could store. Now that our supply are running low we are back in the market and the price has gone up.
