Our daughter works for AK FFG in Delta Junction. They had around 30 homeschoolers come the other day and put on a day of activities for them, some of which were animal identification, fur, paw prints, making casts of paw prints and a mystery to solve.. Thought I'd share a couple pictures. Our daughter is the blond :-) Somehow it doesn't seem quite fair that it's warmer in Alaska than it is here in WI! Cheers Pam

It sounds like it was a worth while activity for the students. I'm wondering how many already had a sound base with regards as to what they saw. Does being home schooled mean that they live in an isolated area? Or is the reason a monetary, religious, or simply a matter of choice.

From what I've observed I think the reason for home schooling is fairly evenly split between religion and choice, just the personalities of the parents. Some of them could also be from families stationed at Ft. Greely. Delta actually has a good public school system. A fair share of families we know up there try to live off the land as much as they can so most kids come from hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening backgrounds. Moose are as common as deer are around here so they've all seen moose up close and personal on the road, or in their yards and gardens.
Our grandsons don't have a TV, and they only get one PBS station on the radio, but like kids down here, they learn very young how to watch movies and play games on the computer.
Their weather this past year has been as odd as ours.
Cheers, Pam
