TC, I know of half a dozen guys at least who did that.
Lets face it you are talking about obrien.
But I know a couple from wisc and a few from MN and one from another state that did the same thing.
They were all investigated. None charged.

I won't mention any names but seems funny how they went from being a so called SD resident to real quick not being such . SD is 90 days and make no claims to have a resident license in any other state.

You dont suppose about the same time that all this transpired the rat population went to nuts so the boys went home?

I don't think so and how do you become a 3 month resident? . If your going to become a resident then well become a resident. The rat population didn't go down until after these issues I believe? if I remember right this would have been 2010 time frame still a good rat population then in NE SD. It think it was more grab all the rats a guy can and then back to the REAL home state I understand the premise behind it and sure they where riding on the thin lines of what a resident truly is, SD has had many try and claim such for various hunting as well and some get by with it others caught and fined. many states have those issues no doubt. So does one become a resident while the rat population is high or to become a resident of the state and buy in work there, have a family there and enjoy what the state offers 12 months out of a year?

In some cases guys hired lawyers to make sure all was legal. Big mistake probably was not keeping a low profile. If you do it above board and want to try and be a three month resident more power to you. If the state doesn't like it then they should make the wait 6 months or a year. I know of guys who had houses there so it wasn't a matter of staying in a motel. In Minnesota you can get a lifetime trapping license and move and still trap Minnesota. Some in South Dakota thought because of this a resident of South Dakota that had a Mn lifetime license shouldn't be able to trap there. Grasping for straws to protect their sacred rats. I would expect the rat price ajustment coming up will make the rat wars a distant memory. I hope not but I think next weeks auction rats will be near 8 bucks and by fall maybe 6? .

That is the problem though black hammer then everyone gets mad when the state then changes residency requirements as well. I just soon leave them as is, but if many residents see the loop hole and as you stated should have had a lower profile then with pressure comes "forced" changes.
Aagain I could care less as long as the laws are followed. Your right rats are cyclic and they are fixing to take a major downturn with ranhc mink taking a hit and Russian sanctions soon to come into play, rats will once again become a distant memory for awhile.

I'll have to think about it for a minute.
Had to be later than the spring of 2010.
2011 must have been the spring that was the last year MN residents could trap.
2012 must have been the spring that SD kicked everybody out.
The guys that trapped that spring had a tough time.
Sound about right Hammer?

Funny thing about some of those mentioned. I got a call that the same person was out scouting an area I trap out in a western state. Good luck to him with the locals. It took me 7 years to gain trust to where they would leave my stuff alone. This year a poor soul didn't know it was me trapping and got his tit in a wringer with those who knew me.

A joke surely not a show of respect. lol That's what Ed Mcmahon always said to Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. That sure wasn't before your time. You were right about rat seasons and such.
