Well have snowshoe trail punched out to beehives, now with snowstorm coming will have to re-track to hives. This long cold spell is going to raise heck with bee survival..... Saw a coon last nite running across snowbank.....the love bug has started and the males are plowing thru deep snow..... Supposedly to get another 4-8 inches which will cause the males more problems. But thaw coming so should get crust and coons can travel better. They better be able because we have had distemper here for last ten years and coon population is very low.

The deer and turkeys and other wildlife are having a very hard time...deer are running roads to get out of deep snow and getting whacked , turkeys are coming into town to bird feeders but only in one and two birds....where the others are is a ?? Probably in a preditors gut or froze someplace..... all i know is if one would butcher a wild turkey now , there would only be stringy muscles on the bone.... 98% feathers.

We've got a hard crust- the rain ,and ten heavy snow and then rain- then an overnight flash freeze, just about holds my weight and that's going to help a bit- hillsides here are windblown to a degree, so deer/turkeys getting a little break-
not til march 8th are they saying it will be above freezing- roads for the most part terrible- snow and ice packed more often than not

A tough year for wildlife. We got that crust too. Just enough so I fall through every four steps. Pulled the last few coon traps I had out and caught five this morning. A little late for coon harvesting in my book but it helped with the winter blues a little.Caught three rats too boy they smell good this time of the year. lol Reminds me of spring South Dakota rat trapping. At least the coon don't have to plow through the snow so that helps them from last week. This stuck weather pettern is the goofy thing . Clippers and polar vortexs here and warm in Alaska Personally I think the climate is changing to extremes.

Dont have many coon here in my area due to distemper for last ten years. Saw a big coon crawling over snow bank other nite, most likely male with love on his mind if he has enough energy plowing thru snow with just his head above snow line left!! Any coon around has get out of trap free card so he can procreate. Dont even see coon dead on road during summer or fall here anymore. I used to take anywhere from 150 200 coon just trapping mink, last year 13 !!!!!

about I'm a little better than that Lee, but the distemper and the late spring & floods combined really put a damper on the coon- I've not taken this few since the early 80s
be interesting with how it all plays out in population comebacks.
We need an if not early normal spring, and a flood free spell for a change
worst year on rats, coon, mink over past 25+ years- and all at once lucky me!
I did however sell early and often, and got a good mid 20s average on coon, and sold 2/3 of my rats at $10, the other 3rd at $7.50
