Can someone explain this please? Is it beneficial to a baited area on trails? How long of a slide? Long enough for out of sight or just off the trail? Thanks.

I do it all the time. It's only beneficial in that it stops me from getting robbed or of people freaking out. It also gives the animal some cover so, possibly, it is less stressed.
I always slide over a bank off the road.
You can slide them off as long as you want. However, if the top pin comes loose you have an animal on a long cable. A wolf on 15 feet is pretty impressive. My bottom tie-off is always a tree.

I have a few that must be 20 feet. It depends on the bank I'm sliding them over. I don't think there is a limit to how far you can go. A crunch proof swivel as a slide lock on 1/8 wire with a stake by the trap and the end attached to a tree is the set up.
The catch usually digs in at the tree. I do clean up the brush beside the wire so no tangling occurs before the end. Fox and lynx don't need much tangling to stop them.
