lucky here that in almost 30 years of coyotes, have had for all practical purposes no mange. maybe 10 over all those years.
but we sure do get rubs and fur breakdowns- usually the fur is good early except for 1 here and there, but this year I had 12 mid oct-mid nov coyotes with mange- that's 10% thereabouts.
I would love to chase coyotes this time of year- but the few times I have in the past, 75% and more were rubbed. so not worth my time.
but I see guys still hitting the coyotes not to far away really from me (3-400 miles) and reporting good fur.
I know there are many reasons for rubs/breakdowns- burrs, lice, fleas, weather damage etc- but I wonder why such a difference from area to area when the weather is typically similar.
I'd be more than interested in hearing thoughts on why/when rubbing occurs.

I have been snaring a few this winter and I find I'm asking myself why? Like you say it makes wonder why other areas not to far away they run much better. Be in northern Mn or southern Iowa their dogs seem to be better from what I hear. Makes no sense to me.
