Hello, my name is Wally and I live in Utah. I started trapping when I was in the 5th grade and trapped like a deranged maniac until I got married at 21. I am now 49 and am in a position to hit it again. I will be trapping on a very large ranch specifically for Coyotes. I will not be harvesting any other animals, strictly a Coyote project which will run year round.
I would first like to say how amazed I have been at the amount of information available today as compared to when I was a kid. Back then I used broken down free traps, road kill soup for bait and lived and breathed off of the advise I gleaned from anyone who would give me the time of day. About the most advice I got was from my old fur buyer who I thought walked on water with all the advice he gave me. It took me many years to realize he never trapped!!!! One other "old timer" who was influential in my young trapping life gave sound advise but he gave it out sparingly and mostly just told me to figure it out. I spent a lot of time "figuring it out" LOL.
I grew up thinking traps being dug up was normal and part of it all. I never knew for years and years people actually died and waxed traps etc. etc. etc. Heck I was about 19 before I even knew there was such a thing as trapping magazines. I grew up in a very small town and I mean small, with a mother and two sisters. Through it all I did manage to catch enough fur and it did not matter one bit what kind of fur to at least get by and help pay some bills etc.
I hope some of you can understand my amazement when I started using the internet to begin studying coyote trapping specifically. Where were you guys when I was a kid LOL.
I don't suspect I have a great deal to offer in the way of sage advice or good idea's. What I can offer is my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the volumes of advice and counsel I am seeing on this web site.
Hopefully I can stick around and contribute in some small way, but no lie, I am here to learn. Thanks in advance if you will have me.
