Steven thanks for posting pics...... Ive only met one other trapper on my line so far and only seen two sets on a river. I'm covering two county s with approximately 125 miles a day.... i know other trappers are out there but not in my areas. Things are slow as the rats and coon and mink are at a low Eb. Going to start on yotes and coon soon. Have you gotten any coon? The ones Ive gotten are 3x or 4x , no little shaeffers....

I've taken maybe a doz coon= all but 2 have been BIG coon. I heard Lee paid someone a $23 average and change for green coon last week, with a lot of dinks and "good" coon in that $35-40 dollar range
I wish I was taking more coon, but just not there. I've seen "maybe" one guy trapping last week- with water opener today, I past a lot of creeks, and saw no one

I've seen some of those locations before in your pics I think.
I wish I could say the same about trapping pressure around here but those $1000 cats triggered a gold rush.

Seeing a few more fellas down here running the river this year. Most of 'em walking in off the highway for what few 'rat huts there are. Wasted an entire day yesterday checking back marshes for 'rat huts . . . usually 5% of what there was two years ago. Last year several of these marshes were bone dry. So where there were a hundred huts two years ago, last year none, this year maybe 5 huts. Business as usual this year, targeting 'coon, mink and 'rats. Three lines, three day rotation, good numbers but nothing to write home about. Numbers of dinky 'coon are unbelievable, some days running 40% of the catch. Here's an example: Just enough clay under the roots to sustain a pocket. Two pockets side by side, on the left grass wad with jack mack, on the right sheep's wool with Caven's mink/'coon bait, q-tip dipped in weasel lure stuck in the roof. Right pocket scores a mink, left pocket scores a small 'coon, further down the drowner cable. Putting these dinks up and we'll get 'em tanned. Susan now has a fur sewing machine and we'll turn these into "real" Davy Crockett hats and handbags to sell at rendezvous. At least they'll fetch more than a buck or two that way. Sidenote: been messing more with the "high pocket" this season, after experimenting last year. Should've been doing this years ago.

More steel in the ground in my area than there is in Pittsburg, I have 2 different guys trespassing on a piece of private ground that I've had to myself for 25 years. I told one of the guys he was on private property and he promptly told me what I could go do to myself. That aside, I am catching a lot of coon. They seem to be running a bit smaller than last year but for the most part they are okay. I don't go out of my way to find rats but I don't pass them up either. I have a couple potholes that I took 100 out of last year, they are slathered with traps this year so I kept going. So far I've found about 40 rats in between coon/canine spots, they'll pay for gas.
For the most part all is well on my line.
Mike

I'm glad to see you are getting coon blackhammer- I thought last year was bad on land, and its just as bad or worse on land (upland type) this year as well. I've taken very few coon, even have some 220s along creek trials- but 80% of what I am catching- are BIG coon- I'm not getting all the dinks so many are reporting will start water in a few weeks, so hopefully will see coon numbers go up
