when i use the waxed paper there is zero worry..... totally air space... if it rains or snows the waxed paper form fits right over the pan... i used to worry about the "crunch" sound of the paper but it seems to not be a factor...
poss.... i know a guy from Indy that kills a ton of dogs and thats his method so I am aware of that... i do not run that many traps at a time so my system is working just fine.... working full time and two kids in hs sports there just aren't enough hours in the day to do it all... still be plenty of coyotes to slaughter when my kids are done with school in three years

I don't want any material under the pan except air. The filters form fit as well and can take decent mositure as that is what they are desgined to do, take hot water and hold up to it. They will keep dirt even with good rain from getting under the pan, couple that with me packing inside the jaws firmly and I have no worries.
I would never trust a wisp of poly fill to stand up to heavy rains that is just me.

a post mentioned on how poly doesn;t work because it freezes-
I merely pointed out to you that that was operator error, not the product
I'd never try to change what you do- obviously, using something wrong has soured you on using it right
but for those that are starting to use poly, or who think it sounds like the easiest, quickest, cheapest best way to keep dirt out of the pan- I expalined HOW to use it so that you have worry free pan action in any conditions.
How do I know that? 20 years of using it the right way

trappernman.... do you trap the jan. freeze and thaw? or just the easy oct/nov days? ? here in KS the weather gets right crappy.. hot/cold.. wet/dry.... changes every five minutes.... i used polyfil the way you mentioned.... still ices up... prob not enough to cause the trap not to fire but hey i am not taking any chances....

emphatic questions to be sure-
yes, I've trapped in freeze and thaw-
quite a bit over the years in fact- and enough to discover that poly done right, is great in such conditions.
I think this explains it- still ices up... prob not enough to cause the trap not to fire but hey i am not taking any chances....
this indicates you have very little actual use with poly done as suggested, under those conditions. If you don't want to use it by all means don't- but your info that poly freezes (enough to matter, since spider web poly even froze solid, is extremely brittle) and thats why it shouldn't be used, is wrong.

what i'm going to tell you- one last time- is that your info on poly is WRONG
how many of those 53, did you catch using poly?
how many did you lose, due to freeze up, using poly?

All of them.... strictly used poly up until this year....
"if you always do what you've done, you'll always get what you've gotten"
wrong or right is not your worry dude.... i am using waxed paper now and i like it better and no offense but I am certainly not going to change my ways on your account...

but it draws moisture when wet then freezes
that was your original statement
and my reply, is that it DOES NOT when used correctly-
so- if its freezing for you- dude- then you are usinf it wrong.
but I don't give a rats arse about how you set, or indeed, even about you- I care when false information is portrayed as fact.
cause this isn't even an opinion- its stone cold fact- poly used righht, does not freeze enough to prevent any trap malfunctions. so you can like or dislike poly all you want, but the reason you stated, is false,. So pardon me, if I dismiss something so false, as lack of experience.
I don't care for a nanosec if you change your ways or not- but you better change your attitude dude- or bye bye

. on wider jaw traps, there IS room to step between dog and pan and sooner or later, its gong to happen. It happened to me last year using wax paper. A big bobcat track in the old #4 Monty was enough to get me going back to screens..... Here kitty, kitty....
