The season has been open for 2 weeks and busy have I been. I just wanted to share a few things. I do have a few photos but they aren't very good and I don't really have time for fiddling with them right now.
I tried a new lure "super 21" and I like it. The fox like it, too, and so did 1 male lynx that had to be given to the wardens because it was caught too early. One fox actually put down a hare's leg it was carrying to get caught on 21!
I saw a silver fox carrying an entire hare last week. It wasn't on my line but I wish it was.
I'm not giving up my Cachottier, though. I just added to my lure choices without removing any.
The weather has been an issue. It was too hot and then got too cold. The waxed sand is doing well but the beaver are iced in. The halfway point to the targeted goal isn't even met. Beavering is hard work in open water but it is brutal under ice. We'll see what happens.
I have a winch in front of my truck. It doesn't get used often, but when it does, it is a wonderful thing. I was driving up a steep new trail that we opened last summer. The sun was in my eyes the trail is narrow, and I'm basically working on one eye due to surgery last year. I drove straight off the road and into a ditch. I didn't know I was off the road until the skid plates jacked!
Tank about a pain. I had to unload, get the winch off the front of the truck and hook it on the back, get out, check for damage (love those skid plates), reload, and get going. A good hour of my life wasted.
Without the winch it would have been a day wasted and maybe an injury. the old pushing the truck off the 4 foot jack would have been dangerous as the hill is quite steep.
Fisher are being a pain. Three times this year they have taken the screen off the boxes to steal the bait.
Everything is FAT. Lots of mice /hareand everything seems to be eating well.
First catch of the year was a cross fox. It was in the last trap set the day before.
No wolves yet but I'm set on tracks and waiting. Maybe tomorrow will be the day. I'm sleeping in the bush tomorrow and running 3 lines. It's going to be busy but the skinning should be good!
That's it for now. I hope others are having as much fun and skinning.
