Goals are arbitrary. All one can do is have their stuff ready and nuts and get it when the hammer drops.

I've been mulling the thought of getting a trailer like that to pull behind my subaru.
If gas stays at 4 bucks I dont think I'll ever drive the pick up again.
Hard to justify another trailer when I already have a two place tilt alumminum. Two place works fine but its kinda odd driving a car with the trialer sticking out two fee on either side.
Some of my rat swamps and pretty much all my under ice beaver spots are 50 70 80 miles away. I find a place to park the trailer overnight and I can get 26 28 mpg running empty with the car and only have to pull the trailer a mile or two if at all. If I have to pull the trailer with the car any distance its in the 22 range.
Beats the heck out of the 15 with the pickup.
Goals are arbitray steve but I do set some but usually they are realistic. I still say I'm gonna catch a thousand rats this winter.

mine are realistic as well- my point being why set up a goal, as a criteria of a good season?
secondary point that after years of trapping, whether rats or mink or coon or coyotes- one knows pretty much based on past years what the range of numbers will be.
goals were more in the learning years- when knowledge was quantitive in nature, and sharp increases were possible year after year simply because of the increase in knowledge or time.
I know I'll take 100+ coyotes this year if I stay healthy, and we don't get another Halloween storm. How many in that "+" range I don't know- and frankly, really don't care because I know that for 5 weeks, I'll be doing the best I can, and to worry about what other want or expect, is a waste of time.
prep has been done, permissions granted, materials stored, truck and myself ready- so how does setting a hardline goal, do anything to increase what I take?

Good luck on the coyotes. How many traps are you going to have In the ground during those 5 weeks?
Looks like I may have to haul water to ND this fall. But I'm still going. Dose anyone think a guy could mak eany money trapping skunks? There are a ton of them out there and they are huge. But I hate skinning them worse then I do coyotes LOL

I thought NAFA's skunk prices sucked. If I trapped them I would look around for somewhere else to market them. Who do you think you are? Bob Wendt.

No if you where Bob Wendt you would have added you have trapped and skinned more skunks than any man alive or dead, and that would go for coyotes alive and dead, fox, coons and what ever lese one can trap NO one has killed more than DR Robert Wendt LOL...............
You would also only catch OLD coyotes every coyote would be 4+ years of age and you would catch them by the semi truck load for a portion of wyoming know for only "old" coyotes................

I had a skunk in a #1 gopher trap today- I've had 8-10 over the years and all, including this one, was released w/o spraying just by talking softly and moving slow.
I think I'll have 100 +/- some locations will have 2, but most will have 3-4. so in that 90-110 range
was going for last permission run tomorrow, but have 1 gopher farm set up, and three farms with hay up- so tomorrow will be a full day and we will set up those last 3 farms- will pull either thurs or sat, fri will be premisison day (suppose to rain which will be good- farmers at home)
sunday I'm watching football- monday I'll start the final get ready countdown- last item is making more stakes and loading up truck.
beav- I do love my coyote trapping, but a month on the marshes ain't a bad way to go either insofar as fun/satisfaction- and God knows the money is better!

Sharp increases from year to year are possible even if one is at the top of his game.
Weather and population dynamics play a huge part in it.
When I started trapping rats last year I told my wife I was gonna catch x amount of rats. She said why not x amount and i said she was nuts. I blew both numbers out of the water pretty good and weather was the integral part of the equation. That and high prices to motivate a little.
The hard part is to stay motivated for the duration

well I'll bet there isn't any of you any more fired up then I am, as some of you know that I have been very ill for about 10 years now and I have been to every Dr. around these parts that would see me, and that is all they did, see me, and pump me full of pain meds and send me on my way, but about 2 1/2 mouth ago I got a little vesit from some one that some of you beleave in and some of you don't, but that is up to you to beleave what you want, anyway he led me to the cause and cure of all my problems, and I lisend to him and I started getting better day by day, stonger and more energe and started takeing walks and every day I could walk longer and longer, but I was still on the strong pain meds, and after about 5 or 6 weeks I got an other vesit and was told it is time to get off the pain meds, so I told my Dr. that I wanted off them, but as you all know you just do stop all at once when you have been on them for all these years, but I did and I can't even begin to tell you how sick I have been for the past 3 weeks, but each day now is getting a little better, so all I have got to Trap the past 10 years is just run a few out the truck sets, so you talk about keyed up alittle, I'm keyed up a hole lot, but in my parts here no fur is any good until at least middle of nov. so I should be able to slam & hammer by then, and its all thanks to my vesiter, that's all I'll say about the vesiter on this post, but I know that some of you know who he is, and for those who want to know more about the vesiter I welcome you to PM. me and will talk about it. but I know that one or two of you have been praying for me thats on here, and I just wanted to take this time to thank you from the bottem of my heart, the vesiter heard every word you said to him. Thank you all very much again, and if you need prayer just ask and you got it, I hope I don't get thorwed off here for this, but owell i've been thorwed out of better places, the truth is the truth,
