I have ran cable for a bit and don't know what to think. Im always getting stuck on the cable ends and I always get it tangled somehow.
Been thinking about making the switch to chain.
What are y'all running? How many feet? Why that one over the other?

I take the chains off. Leave 1 link on for trap tag. Traps dont get so tangle.

about 1/2 of my personal 330's have a swivel and around 6' foot of cable added to the factory chain, with a slip loop on end of cable for attaching to anchor point. i use the alum. stops with no cable end sticking out to cause the sticking problems.
the other 1/2 of them have a swivel, and about 6 foot of small twin loop ( smaller than the chain from factory) but then after wireing the end of chain got old, i added enough cable to the end of the extra chain, with a loop on the end of that to eliminate use of wire. (tip, make the added cable long enough to run 330 back thru loop so as to be able to wrap around tree or whatever, if not something handy to just hang loop on.)
cable is probably the cheaper way to go, but i like the chain, for useing at the set, wrapping and storeing.

I hate cable on my smaller body grips (110s 160s and 220s) It's just a pain In the butt. The chain ring just slips over my 1/2" angle Iron stabilizer and I'm good to go. On My 280s and 330s I use 10 feet of 1/8" cable attahed to the exciting chain ring with a home made saftey pin type clip on the other end . Make a couple of wraps arond a tree or stick or som ebrush and then clip te saftey pin clip back on the cable. Never lost a beaver or otter with this set up. Then all you have to do when picking them up Is to wrap the cable around the jaws twice then continue wrapping around the entire trap. At the end you just drag the cable through the wraps In the spring eye. It makes for a nice neat job.

I use a set up simler to Rons when I'm setting out my dps. I pre set all my cables at my locations with a set up like Rons then when I come to set I just slide the bar throuh the trap swivel and I'm gone. Then when I pull I just leave the cable behind.

I just cut the ring off my 330's and replace with a swivel. I quick link the swivel to a drowning cable. My drowning cables are about 10' with adjustable loops. That way I get double duty out of the cable.
Smaller body grips - whatever they come with. On the 110's I add a few feet of wire, so I can fasten to whatever is handy.
