One of the things I've noticed for the past couple yrs is after the first month and a half of going going going my drive really starts to diminish after that, mostly from sleep deprivation. So's I asked around and some repond some don't on methods to keep the drive going. Some responses are they take some time off, 5hr supplement drink, or my favorite it don't happen to them(machines). Here they go 4-5 wks and pack it in due to burn out mostly. Any suggestions?

Having new sets or a line out really is good for the attitude. Like the saying goes you make money setting traps not checking. Frankly if I'm catching fur I don't get burnt out. One thing that does burn me out in some instances is dealing with people,be it deer hunters or whiny trappers and bad weather can get to you. But when things are going decent I would rather trap than rest any day.

Get a couple kids in college at 15 grand a year each.
That tends to motivate.

Over the years I've found there is an internal clock that tells me when I need to see and set new ground as my enthusiasm is starting to drop off even though catches are being made. I tried Steve's approach to leaving mink sets in to soak for weeks on end two years ago and it dang near killed me!! As with many things we do, when a person's enthusiasm and drive dimenish, so goes your A game!

Totally agree new sets help keeping things rolling, plus adds to the fur pile. I also love to start testing a few select baits or lures, now I'm talking Jan and Feb here , figure if they produce in that weather its a great start. I was looking more for diettary supplements. One I've tested is the amp, and red bull , got onto it from watching how the young guys at work kept it going working dbl shifts. Most don't drink coffe this stuff is their staple. Since I'm a coffee drinker and my coffee is normally ice cold after an hr in the truck I started looking for other avenues, this is what I've found and it does work, plus it takes time to water the trees after drinkin java, the amp not as much down time to water trees.

Hear I thought it was to pick up a longer handle snow shovel, and keep on digging the truck out from those mysterous 10 foot snow drifts.

those drinks are just a tradeoff-
the only way to do it is to do it right- eat right, exercise right the other 10 months a year so your body can hold up-
Mentally is another aspect- and so much of that comes down to ocndition as well.
My most intense trapping for me is coyotes, and while I often get bone tired, I mentally never waver- true story I often go to sleep at night mentally reviewing my set ups from the frist stop.....
the period that wears me down physically and mentally, is the last week of coyotes that usually butts right into trying to get all the water set up asap-
and all one can do is just bull through it
Gophers are a different story- hard work, hot work, dirty muddy sweaty work- by this time of year its just a job- a job I could easily take a month off from, but it IS a job.....

As you said just bull thru it. As im getting into my younger years i find i have to (just bull through it) till i get a second wind or energy and keep moving. One thing that helps me is to have a hot crock pot full of a good meal when walking in door, gives you a boost providing you dont go and sit down in easy chair. You have to get right out to fur shed and get busy... hanging catch , skinning, and getting truck ready for next day..... THEN I disagree is dragging...lol
