Yep..So back in the day..there were many different brand name traps..All were long spring or double longspring..ie victor, blake & lamb..oneida newhouse..diamond..and all of these traps were made from "Spring Steel"..spring steel is made in different grades..To me this is the most significant part of the trap..In todays world I can't find out what the spring steel is of modern production double longspring or long spring traps..It seems to be taboo..So at todays prices of #3's up..I want to buy the best spring steel in a trap..Do any of you know about what manufacture of traps put's the BEST spring steel in their traps?..Oh and if yesteryears traps had better spring steel what brand..And to tell you the truth..I'm looking at #3 0r #4 doublelongspring traps..Carl

Yep..So actually it is down to Bridger or Sleepy Creek..in a #3 or #4..double longspring for me..I have never owned either brand doublelong springs in a coyote/cat sized trap..I have tried to ask about spring steel in the trap..but it not an answeared question..So..for those that trap with either of the two traps mentioned..have you changed out the springs
1) after 1 season 2) after 2 season 3) after 3 season 4) never had spring failure in 4 or more seasons

I have never heard of anyone changing out the springs on longspring traps unless they were real old traps. Usually it is coilspring traps that are either double coiled or #2 coils replaced with #3 coils. Jim

the only longspring traps I've used that had terrible steel, and wouldn't last even a season, is the duke #0s that had springs made of spagetti
my 3s and 4s are all old traps, and as you said, have good steel and springs that seem to last forever

Blake and Lamb used much better grade of spring steel in their longsprings than did Victor, Diamond or Triumph. Only stronger spring was the Newhouse and that is debateable.
You would be better off buying old B&L traps(still stronger than new) and repalce the jaws if need offsets or just laminate the jaws if old style. Have heard that Sleepy Creek longspring jaws fit B&L longsprings.

I like the B&L's, find some of them. I have several dozen with 3n malleable jaws and PIT pans.
Those are my favorite traps of all time.

In my opinion the Sleepy Creek is the DLS trap to beat if you are going to buy new and don't want to spend +$100 for a LPC trap.
I have a couple dozen SC #4 DLS's that are moded with 1/4" lam, and a 5"x5" pan. I like them a LOT!!!

Have to agree with the sleepycreek 4 for cattin.. was just talking to another this evening about buying them as the met just about every crucial guideline to many different states and ,settled on buying a "few" dozen to add to my cat traps in freeze thaw cat season.
