Very small sample.Low population,Twenty sets, two coyotes per week for five weeks(I mistakingly put four weeks)May not be a good sample,or the numbers you were looking for, but theres a good chance the coyotes in weeks 3,4 and 5 had seen my stuff before.

thanks-
I used to run 3-4 weeks at a location, and found I too got coyotes periodically after the first week.

At my stage, gas money=tuition. It also helps my mentality to start the day with this question, I wonder what the coyotes are doing?,versus how many am I going to catch? I found a good thread from back in Jan. on coyote sign after it snows.I think the title had something to do with bait and lure use though.

trapping in snow is a good educator that is for sure. Snow tells you the truth.
One thing that is debated often is do coyotes react differently in snow?
JC told me once, and others echoed the same thought- "Don't think for an instant what you see coyotes doing on snow, they aren't doing on bare ground.
While very deep snow does change things sure, once they can travel in/on it they go back to innate patterns & actions.

I agree in my humble opinion. One thing I thought about though was, that first check after the snow can be humbling, but the front itself may have caused more activity than normal,so every night before might not have been represented as numbers of tracks seen.......I guess I'm kind of stearing us off original topic

Some of the areas that I trap are pretty much virgin territory. Coyotes in these areas can be wise to calls since deer hunters and ranch hands are always trying to call them in. However, I really don't notice a difference between catch rates between young coyotes\small females and older dominant males\females. The first day or two I may have as many as 7 to 8 coyotes in a trapline of only 22 traps. I usually catch a greater percentage of dominate or large coyotes in my snare line since that method is so indiscriminate.
