My first time trapping mink and sent off one of my 10 to NAFA and graded out as a ranch mink but did not get offered. This mink was the 2nd smallest a caught even though it stretched 23 inches( nose to base of tail), it was brown in color. The question I have is what I should with the rest of my mink, send to NAFA for May?They range from 22-36 inches and are jet black to brown/ white patches on the chest/chin. All are dried fur in though currently. All there caught on public land and seem to be escapes or interbred w/ wild. thanks for input. What should I expect for prices, ranch mink prices?

All depends on quality of pelts, put up, grade by grader and most important how many people that want that grade of mink you have and bid against it.... simple but you dont know untill you get your check!

They probably are all escapes and inbreds especially if you are getting some 36 inches long! Also jet black is a black gamma colored ranch fur that has very short guard hair. Ship to the wild fur auction as they will probably downgrade them, you get what you get. Don't try to sell escape ranch mink to a mink ranch or ranch fur sale they prefer not to even take them. They may look good but if they grew up in the wild they won't be like a prime ranch fur harvested on the best day and fed a balanced diet every day.

If they are "wild ranch" mink then you are best to put them up the same as you do your wild fur. As mentioned above they will not fit in with the ranched goods. They would probably do better as a separate grade in the wild fur assortment.
If I hear different next time I chat with Dave Bewick in Winnipeg I will post it.

Thanks Ron, just looking for guidance on this issue and if I should ship them to NAFA for May. Like I said I was surprised the one I sent graded as ranch, as it looked wild to me and marked as that when it was pick up. It did not sell this round and currently just shown as MXD MAY 12. What does MXD mean, an will they grade it before May for size.
